Aerodynamics...

Let's Play Take Two...The Aeros swept New Hampshire in a doubleheader last night, taking game one 6-3 and hanging on in the nightcap by a final count of 4-3. It was the third twin bill sweep on the road for Akron this season, with the previous two coming April 22nd at Harrisburg and May 17th at Altoona. RHP Jeanmar Gomez struggled with his location in game one but still gutted out a quality start and earned the win, going six innings and allowing three runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out five. C Armando Camacaro was the star in game two, going 3-3 with three singles and two RBI as the Aeros improved to a season-best 22 games over .500 at 43-21. The club has won five straight, eight of nine, and 10 of its last 12 contests.

The Heart of the Matter...A quartet of Akron hitters in the middle of the lineup dominated the Fisher Cats pitching last night. Nick Weglarz, Carlos Santana, Beau Mills and Matt McBride all had monster outings as the 3-6 batters in the lineup, as they combined to bat .385 (10-26) in the two games with five walks, four doubles, a home run, seven runs scored and eight RBI. Weglarz, Mills and McBride provided all of the scoring in game one by collecting two RBI apiece, while Weglarz's three runs scored in the opener tied an Aeros season-high and Santana's three walks gave him a league-leading 45 on the year.

Beau Knows Hitting...Mills had a base hit in both games of the doubleheader last night, extending his hitting streak to a season-high nine games (RF John Drennen was hitless in game two as his nine-game streak ended). Mills has always enjoyed the summer months, as he is now hitting .295 with a .503 slugging percentage in 577 career games from June-August. While his power numbers were similar before and after the All-Star break last year, Mills batted .327 after the break compared to .268 before the break en route to winning the Carolina League MVP award. He is now hitting .406 (13-32) with eight RBI in his last nine games.

Jersey's Finest...Reliever Carlton Smith got the spot-start in game two and delivered three shutout innings while limiting the Fisher Cats to only one hit and one walk against two strikeouts in his second start of the season. The native of Piscataway, New Jersey ran his scoreless streak to 10.0 consecutive innings spanning his past five outings, as the right-hander improved to 3-0 with a 3.20 ERA in 16 total appearances. He also has a better than 4:1 ratio of groundouts to fly outs this month.

Creeping Closer...With their recent hot streak the Aeros have moved to just one game behind Double-A Birmingham (Southern League) for the best record in baseball. In winning 10 of their last 12 games the Aeros have out-scored their opponents 64-24 and have out-batted them .255 to .187 while stretching their lead to six games in the Southern Division.

Did You Know...As we mentioned before, C Armando Camacaro was a perfect 3-3 in Akron's victory in the nightcap, including a two-run, two-out single in the top of the second to put the Aeros on top first. The veteran from Guatire, VZ also wasted no time at the plate, as he recorded his three hits while seeing a grand total of five pitches from New Hampshire hurlers.
