* Eight is not Enough...Both sides had the offense working last night, but the SeaWolves simply had more in the long run as Erie claimed game one of a three-game series 11-8 at Jerry Uht Park. It was a back and forth, one-run affair through the first five innings before the SeaWolves exploded for five runs in the bottom of the sixth, including three home runs. The game marked a season-high in terms of both runs (11) and home runs (six) allowed by Akron pitching this year, and was just the fourth time the Aeros have lost when scoring at least four times. The eight runs were the most scored by Akron in a defeat this season, and the club has now lost back-to-back games for just the second time in 2009. The SeaWolves also climbed to within five games of first place behind Akron in the Southern Division. * Anything You Can Do...Last night's opener featured a first for Akron this year, as the Aeros and SeaWolves constantly one-upped one another through the first half of the game. The clubs combined to score in seven consecutive half-innings, from the bottom of the first through the bottom of the fourth. Erie opened the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the first before Akron responded with three runs in the top of the second. The SeaWolves then tied it in the bottom of the inning, the Aeros retook the lead, the âWolves tied it, the Aeros went back on top, and finally Erie took the lead for good with Max Leon's two-run homer in the fourth. Akron had a chance to keep the fun going in the top of the fifth when C Carlos Santana lined a double off the right field wall to start the inning, but the Aeros couldn't bring him around to tie the game. * Beau Knows Homers...1B Beau Mills socked a pair of home runs for Akron last night, joining Nick Weglarz as the only Aeros to hit two bombs in a game this year. Mills lofted a solo shot to left-center on the first pitch of the third inning to put Akron ahead 4-3, and then drilled a three-run blast off the video board in right-center in the ninth to account for the final margin. The native of Visalia, CA entered last night with two homers in 174 at-bats before his big night, and his four RBI in the game were a season-high. Mills had a pair of two-homer games for Class A Kinston last season en route to Carolina League MVP honors, June 27th at Frederick and April 28th at Salem as part of a career-high, six-RBI performance. * Center of Attention...CF Jose Constanza had another big game from the top spot in the order, finishing 3-5 with a run scored, two RBI singles, and his league-leading 18th stolen base of the year. The native of Santo Domingo, DR has flourished in a return trip to Akron this year, as he is already more than halfway to his 2008 totals in hits (94 last year, 50 this year), walks (28 last year, 18 this year), runs (44 last year, 28 this year), RBI (34 last year, 18 this year), and stolen bases (23 last year, 18 this year). Constanza is tied for eighth in the league with a .314 batting average and is second on the team with 13 multi-hit games.
