Brian Dopirak hits two homers as Fisher Cats fall 9-5 in Reading Saturday night

Reading, PA---Brian Dopirak launched two solo home runs, his ninth and tenth of the season, but the New Hampshire Fisher Cats fell 9-5 Saturday night before 9,193 at FirstEnergy Stadium in Reading.

Gus Milner (2-for-3, 2B, BB, 4 RBI) drove in four runs for the Phillies (27-20) with a single and a double.

Reading scored its first run in the bottom of the second inning. Milner walked, stole second base and scored on a single by Paul Bako (2-for-4, 2 RBI) to make it 1-0.

The Phillies extended the lead in the bottom of the third inning. Michael Taylor drew a two-out walk and Kevin Mahar singled to right field. Neil Sellers reached on an error as Taylor scored. Milner doubled in two more runs as Reading opened a 4-0 lead.

New Hampshire (24-26) got on the board in the top of the fourth inning. David Cooper was hit by a pitch and Nick Gorneault (2-for-5, HR, 2 RBI) homered over the center field wall to cut the lead to 4-2.

Reading knocked Fisher Cats starter Marc Rzepczynski (6-5) out in the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring five runs (one earned) on four hits. Michael Spidale homered to lead off the frame, the first allowed by Rzepczynski this season. Ozzie Chavez followed with a single, Quintin Berry singled, and Brad Harman reached on an error allowing a run to score. Michael Taylor was intentionally walked to load the bases, Milner hit a two-run single ending Rzepczynski's outing and Bako drove in a run with a single off reliever Rommie Lewis to make it 9-2.

Rzepczynski worked 3.2 IP, allowing nine runs (two earned) on eight hits, walking four and striking out four. Lewis worked 3.1 scoreless innings in relief and Nate Starner pitched around a walk in the eighth inning for New Hampshire.

The Fisher Cats added two solo home runs off starter and winning pitcher Joe Savery (5-1) in the top of the fifth inning. Brian Dopirak and Brian Jeroloman each hit solo shots to cut the lead to 9-4.

Savery worked the first five innings for Reading, allowing four runs on five hits while walking five.

Dopirak added another solo home run, his tenth of the season, off reliever Joe Bisenius in the top of the seventh inning.

New Hampshire would threaten in the top of the ninth inning after Reading reliever Francisco Butto walked the bases loaded, but Gorneault hit into a game-ending double play.

The Fisher Cats continue the roadtrip Sunday afternoon in Reading. RHP Randy Boone (3-2, 4.43) starts for New Hampshire. The Phillies will counter with RHP Vance Worley (4-2, 2.83). Game time is 1:05pm and radio coverage begins at 12:45pm with the BayRing Pre-Game Show on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network with Bob Lipman.

New Hampshire returns home on Friday, June 5 to begin a three-game series with Reading.
