New Britain Rock Cats News Release
New Britain, CT - Rene Tosoni and Danny Valencia homered to power the Rock Cats to a 6-5 win over the Binghamton Mets in front of a sellout crowd of 6,764 on Saturday night.
The crowd was the third-straight sellout in a row and the 8th sellout of the season at New Britain Stadium.
The Rock Cats started off strong by putting a run on the board in the first three innings, with Brian Dinkelman starting things off in the first with a double to right field, moving to third on a wild pitch, and scoring on Valencia's sacrifice fly to right field. Binghamton tied it up on D.J. Wabick's RBI single in the top of the second.
In the second, the Rock Cats received three consecutive singles by Yancarlos Ortiz, Danny Lehmann, and Brandon Roberts, with Ortiz scoring on Roberts' base hit. Valencia added a solo home run in the third to make it 3-1.
The B-Mets answered back again in the fourth, this time on a two-run homer by Lucas Duda off Rock Cats' starter Jay Rainville. In the fifth, the B-Mets took their first lead of the game on Josh Thole's RBI single to center field.
The lead was short-lived as the Rock Cats struck back in the bottom of the inning. Tosoni delivered the eventual final blow - a three-run blast to right field that put the 'Cats back on top, 6-4. It was his team-leading seventh homer of the season.
Binghamton's Emmanuel Garcia added an RBI double in the sixth, but that was all the Mets could muster off the Rock Cats' pitching staff as the relief corps of Frank Mata, Robert Delaney, and Anthony Slama combined for 3 1/3 shutout innings. Delaney struck out four in two scoreless innings and Slama closed out the game in the ninth to notch his 10th save of the season.
Rainville (2-2) allowed five runs on seven hits through 5 2/3 innings. For the B-Mets, Dylan Owen (0-5) suffered the loss after surrendering six runs and 10 hits in five innings.
