Aeros Game Notes

May 24, 2010 - Eastern League (EL1)
Akron RubberDucks News Release

Sweet Sunday... Newcomer Alex White led Akron with his solid pitching Sunday as the Aeros took the rubber match of a three-game series against the Harrisburg Senators by the score of 5-2. White delivered seven strong innings for the longest start of the year by an Aero in front of a rowdy crowd of 6,825 fans at Canal Park. Akron struck the early blow with RBI doubles in the first and second innings while Chris Marrero and Marvin Lowrance tied the game for Harrisburg at 2-2 in the seventh with a pair of solo homers. The Aeros offense quickly responded in heroic fashion in that seventh, pouncing for the final three runs with three run-scoring hits. White (1-0) earned the win in his debut as he kept the Sens' bats quiet for most of the game while Harrisburg reliever Mike MacDougal (2-1) took the loss by allowing the first two runs in the seventh. Steven Wright earned his first save out of the bullpen by delivering a scoreless ninth inning, becoming the fourth different closer in a row.

Alex the Lion... The story of the game Sunday was the magnificent performance of the righty starter White. In his seven-inning Double-A debut, he struck out two while allowing five hits, one walk and the two solo home runs. No previous Akron pitcher had lasted more than six innings in a game this year, but it was very familiar territory for the 21-year-old. In fact, he has pitched at least six innings in each of his last five starts and has a 2.23 ERA and opponent batting average of .171 in the month of May. He was officially promoted from Class A Kinston earlier Sunday and was Cleveland's first-round pick in the June 2009 Draft.

The Price is Right... Reliever Bryan Price delivered a fourth straight scoreless outing as the Akron relievers helped seal the deal for the series victory. Price kept up his recent hot streak in not allowing a hit in a spotless eighth inning. In his past four appearances, the 23-year-old Rice University product has six strikeouts against two walks and two hits in 5.0 IP.

Birthday Boy... Matt McBride celebrated his 25th birthday in style at Canal Park Sunday, finishing 2-3 with a pair of RBI and a walk in the Akron victory. A native of Bethlehem, PA, he has hit safely in five of his past six contests and ranks fourth in the team with both nine doubles and 21 RBI on the year. Last year on his birthday, he was 1-4 with a double in an 8-1 victory vs. Erie.

Streaking... The hottest hitter in the Eastern League continued his scorching month of May as Jared Goedert improved his hitting streak to a 2010 Aeros-high of 12 consecutive games. He went 1-4 at the plate with an RBI single, and now is tied with Trenton's Reid Gorecki for the longest active hitting streak in the Eastern League.

Did You Know... The Akron pitching staff now has an ERA of 3.00 in the past 15 games dating back to May 8th at Reading.
