New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
New Britain, CT - The New Hampshire Fisher Cats fought back from deficits of 6-0 and 7-6 to force extra innings, but Steve Singleton's two-out walk-off single in the bottom of the 10th -his third RBI hit of the night- lifted the New Britain Rock Cats to an 8-7 victory over the Fisher Cats on Monday night at New Britain Stadium.
Trailing 6-0 in the top of the seventh, New Hampshire (26-17) broke up Mike McCardell's shutout bid when Shawn Bowman (2-for-4, HR, HBP) connected for a two-out solo homer, his third, over the wall in left-center. Adam Loewen (2-for-5, 2B, RBI, R) followed with a double to center, scoring on David Cooper's single to right, reducing the Rock Cats' lead to 6-2.
The Fisher Cats tied the game, 6-6, by striking for four runs in the top of the eighth. Eric Thames (1-for-3, SF, HBP) hit a sac fly off Joe Testa to score Jonathan Diaz, who singled. New Britain summoned reliever Chris Province, who proceeded to yield RBI singles to Brad Emaus (1-for-4, RBI, R, BB) and Loewen before walking Cooper (2-for-4, 2B, BB, 2 RBI) with the bases loaded to force in the tying run.
Singleton (3-for-5, HR, 2B, 3 RBI) swung the lead back to the Rock Cats (12-30) by lining a two-out solo homer, his third, off Danny Farquhar in the bottom of the eighth, for a 7-6 advantage.
Again, the Fisher Cats clawed back when Brian Jeroloman (1-for-3, BB, R) led off with a single off Province. Pinch-runner Callix Crabbe advanced to second on a passed ball, moved to third on a ground out and scored the tying run when Adam Calderone (1-for-4, 2B, BB, RBI, R) doubled off the top of the wall in right, missing a home run by a foot, but deadlocking the game, 7-7.
Vince Bongiovanni (4-2) suffered his second loss in two days when, after retiring the first two hitters in the 10th, he walked Mark Dolenc (0-for-3, SF, BB, 2 R) on four pitches, yielded a single to Yangervis Solarte (2-for-5, R) and then surrendered Singleton's shot over the head of Mastroianni in center for New Hampshire's first walk-off defeat of the year.
New Britain batted around in the bottom of the fourth, plating four runs on five hits against spot starter B.J. LaMura and reliever Bubbie Buzachero. Ben Revere (2-for-5, 2 R, SB) led off the uprising with a single and a stolen base. Revere scored on Erik Lis's single off LaMura for a 1-0 lead. Buzachero then surrendered a run-scoring infield single to Solarte, an RBI double to Singleton and another infield RBI single by Allan de San Miguel (2-for-3, 2B, RBI) for a 4-0 Rock Cats' lead.
The Rock Cats upped the lead to 6-0 in the bottom of the fifth on Lis's fielder's choice grounder that scored Revere and Dolenc's sacrifice fly that brought home Brandon Roberts.
For the first time in 2010, the Fisher Cats will play a doubleheader on Tuesday in New Britain. New Hampshire has slated left-hander Luis Perez (4-3, 3.86) and right-hander Adrian Martin (1-1, 3.48) to start the twin-bill, while New Britain has scheduled left-hander Tyler Robertson (0-3, 3.86) and right-hander Kyle Gibson (2-0, 1.26) as their starters, respectively. Fisher Cats Pre-Game begins at 4:45pm on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network.
The Fisher Cats welcome the Trenton Thunder to Merchantsauto.com Stadium over Memorial Day weekend, with three straight Atlas Fireworks Shows scheduled for Friday, May 28 (7:05pm); Saturday, May 29 (6:05pm, doubleheader); and Sunday, May 30 (6:05pm).
