May 24, 2010 - Eastern League (EL1)
Altoona Curve News Release
AKRON, OH - Alex Presley went 4-for-5 with a pair of home runs, a triple, and a double while he drove in eight runs breaking the 10-year old record of legendary player Adam Hyzdu in Altoona's 11-1 routing of the Akron Aeros (AA - Cleveland Indians) on Monday night at Canal Park.
Presley tripled in three runs in the first inning to extend Altoona's 1-0 lead in the game to a 4-0 advantage in the top of the frame off of Akron starter and reigning Eastern League Pitcher of the Week, Scott Barnes, who in his last start no-hit the Curve through 5.1 innings at Blair County Ballpark on May 18.
The Curve left fielder would blast his third homer of the season with two teammates aboard in the third inning, giving him six RBIs, which made him the first Curve player to drive in six RBIs since Jamie Romak accomplished the feat on August 15, 2008 at New Hampshire.
The Pirates' eighth round selection in June 2006 out of the University of Mississippi would break Hyzdu's record of seven RBIs in one game - which Hyzdu accomplished twice; with the last time occurring on May 5, 2000 - with a two-run shot in the fifth inning. It was Presley's first two-homer game of his career and it extended the Curve lead to 10-0.
Lost in Presley's stellar offensive performance was the best start of the 2010 season from Altoona righty Tim Alderson. Alderson tossed a season-best 7.0 shutout innings, scattering just four hits. Alderson struck out five batters.
RHP Diego Moreno also made his Double-A debut tossing a scoreless eighth inning. Moreno was called up from Bradenton Marauders (Advanced - A) on Monday morning. After allowing a leadoff single, he would retire the next three hitters, striking out the last two.
The Curve (28-16) have won a season-high six in a row and are now a season-best 12 games over .500 and 5-0 on their longest road trip of the 2010 season (eight games over seven days).
Altoona will look to grab the second game of the four-game series against the Aeros on Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. LHP Rudy Owens (3-2, 3.35) toes the rubber for Altoona and will be opposed by Akron lefty Eric Berger (1-2, 8.38).
Air time on flagship station ESPN Radio, 1430 WVAM and Altoona Curve Radio Network affiliates will begin at 6:35 p.m.
