Aeros 1B Beau Mills Named Indians Minor League Player of the Week

AKRON, OH - The Cleveland Indians today announced Akron Aeros 1B BEAU MILLS has been named the Indians Minor League Player of the Week for the week of July 10 - 16.

This past week, Mills, 24, hit .588 (10-17) with 5 runs scored, 3 doubles, 2HR and 7RBI as he hit safely in 5 games for the Aeros while posting a .667 on-base percentage and a 1.118 slugging percentage (1.785 OPS). Yesterday, he was also named the Eastern League Player of the Week.

Mills, who did not begin his 2011 campaign until mid-May after suffering from left Achilles tendonitis in spring training, has hit safely in each of his last 8 games batting .517 (15-29) with 9 runs scored, 4 doubles, 4HR and 11RBI. On the season, he is batting .308 (66-218) with 34 runs scored, 16 doubles, a triple, 9HR and 44RBI in 58 games.

Mills was the Indians 1st round selection (13th overall) in the 2007 First-Year Player Draft out of Lewis-Clark State College (ID) and is the son of current Houston Astros Manager Brad Mills. Last year at Akron he batted .241 with 10HR and 72RBI in 113 games as he has hit 10 or more home runs in each of the last 3 seasons including a career-best 21 at Kinston in 2008.

The Cleveland Indians Player of the Week award recognizes an individual performance from within the Indians Player Development System and is announced each Tuesday thru the end of the minor league baseball season. All players from the Tribe's minor league affiliates are eligible for the weekly award.
