Martin Shuts Down Bowie in 5-4 Senators Win

In front of 3,471 at Metro Bank Park on Tuesday night, the Senators defeated the Bowie Baysox 5-4. The Sens squandered a 4-0 lead, only to score a run in the 8th inning and then hang on in the ninth for the win.

Rafael Martin came on to face Ronnie Welty in the top of the eighth and struck him out to end the inning, stranding runners at first and third. The Sens then broke through in the bottom of the eighth when Bill Rhinehart singled in Josh Johnson with the eventual winning run off of RH Wynn Pelzer.

Harrisburg had taken an early 4-0 lead scoring two runs in the first and two in the second. Tim Pahuta and Chris McConnell had rbi singles in the second giving the Sens a 2-0 lead. Tyler Moore hit his league leading 21st home run leading off the third for a 3-0 lead then Pahuta singled in Chris Rahl giving the Sens a 4-0 lead.

Shairon Martis pitched five scoreless innings before running into trouble in the sixth. He allowed a grand slam to Pedro Florimon with two-outs to tie the game. He left after allowing a single to Ronnie Welty. Martis pitched 5.2 innings, striking out six and allowing eight hits. Cory VanAllen pitched a scored 1.1 innings before turning the game over to Martin.

After striking out Welty to end the 8th, he struck out the side in the ninth to earn his second win on the season.

The Senators are now 56-39 on the season while Bowie falls to 51-43. The final game of the three-game series and the Sens seven-game homestand is Wednesday at noon. RH Tanner Roark takes the hill for the Senators against LH Zach Britton for the Baysox.
