Milwaukee Admirals News Release
OVERALL...The Milwaukee Admirals (20-13-6-2) will embark on a grueling four-game road trip playing four games in five nights in four different AHL cities. The Admirals enter the week with a four-game unbeaten streak (2-0-2) and are in third place in the West Division seven points behind the second place Chicago Wolves and six points ahead of the both the Houston Aeros and Cincinnati Mighty Ducks.
THE WEEK AHEAD:
@ SYRACUSE...Milwaukee is 3-0 lifetime vs. the Crunch, including 1-0 in Syracuse. In one meeting this season Brian Finley stopped all 19 shots, recording the first of this two shutouts on the season, as the Admirals topped the Crunch 2-0. Syracuse is coached by former Milwaukee Admiral (82-83) Gary Agnew.
@ ROCHESTER...The Admirals are 1-0 this season and 3-1-0-1 lifetime vs. the Americans. In two games played in Rochester, Milwaukee is 0-1-0-1 losing 7-3 on November 29, 2003 and suffering a 3-2 overtime loss on February 16, 2002. The Admirals also won two of three 02-03 Calder Cup mini-series games to eliminate the Americans.
@ PHILADELPHIA...Philadelphia enters this week's action leading the Eastern Conference. They are riding a four-game winning streak and are 9-0-1 in their last ten outings. This is the fifth lifetime meeting between the Admirals and the Phantoms with the Admirals holding a 2-1-0-1 advantage in the series. In two games played in Philadelphia the Admirals have a 1-0-0-1 mark, including a 6-5 overtime loss on November 22, 2002 and a 3-0 shutout win on February 22, 2002.
@ TORONTO...The Admirals visit the Ricoh Coliseum for the first time ever on Sunday as they take on the Roadrunners in the second of four meetings between the two teams. In the first game Milwaukee took a 4-3 victory over Toronto on opening night this year.
LAST WEEK'S ACTION...The Admirals picked up five of a possible six points with a 2-0-1 week at the Bradley Center. On Sunday afternoon, Brandon Segal's goal 3:29 into the contest held up until the Griffins' Hugo Boisvert knotted the game with a shorthanded goal with 4:06 left in the game. Wade Flaherty stopped 26 of 27 shots as the Admirals and Griffins skated to a 1-1 tie. On Saturday night, the San Antonio Rampage took a 1-0 lead 28 seconds into the game, but Mathieu Darche and Brad Tiley responded with goals in a span of 2:11 late in the first period. Brian Finley stopped 34 of 35 Rampage shots. On Thursday night the Admirals used first period shorthanded goals by Tony Hrkac and Mathieu Darche to propel them to a 5-1 victory over Rochester. Flaherty picked up the win, stopping 22 of 23 Rochester shots.
HALF FULL...HALF EMPTY...The Admirals have now passed the midway point of the 2003-04 season. After 40 games, they found themselves two points ahead of last year's squad, who posted a 17-12-7-4 (45 points) mark at the midway point last year. Through 20 Bradley Center home games this season, the Admirals are 10-8-2 (.550 and 22 points), while last season's Admirals were 10-4-4-2 (.650 and 26 points). On the road Coach Noel's team has been very impressive, playing at a .625 pace (10-5-3-2 and 25 points), compared to last season's 7-8-3-2 (.475 and 19 points) mark away from the BC.
ICE CUBES...Milwaukee boasts the most potent offensive in the AHL, scoring 3.1 goals per game, while ranking eigth defensively allowing 2.34 goals per contest. The Admirals are 4-3-3-2 outside the West Division. Tony Hrkac leads the Admirals' scorers with 32 points and playmakers with 21 assists. Left wing Mathieu Darche leads Admirals goal scorers with 17 and is tied for second with Darren Hayder among Admirals' scorers with 28 points. Wade Flaherty ranks third among AHL goaltenders with a stingy 1.74 goals against average. Twenty-year old rookie Timofei Shishkanov is sixth among AHL rookie scorers with 27 points (13g-14a) through 39 games. Defensemen Curtis Murphy (6g-18a) and Brad Tiley (5g-17a) rank seventh and tenth respectively in AHL defensemen scoring.
