Manitoba Moose News Release
The Vancouver Canucks today announced they have recalled defenceman Jaroslav Obsut (YAHR-oh-slahv OHB-suht) from the Manitoba Moose.
Obsut is third in Moose scoring this season with eight goals and 17 assists for 25 points in 44 games. That ranks him fifth in league scoring amongst defencemen. His eight goals is also tied for third in the league among blueliners. He has accumulated 38 PIM this season.
This will be Obsut's third recall by the Canucks so far this year. However, he has not played when recalled back on October 29 and December 27, 2003.
The 27-year old was named co-winner of the team's season-ending community service award in 2002-03. Last year, he played in 60 games with the Moose scoring six goals and 13 assists to go along with 59 PIM. He appeared in all 14 playoff games, recording four assists.
The native of Presov, Slovakia has played in seven NHL games in his career with the St. Louis Blues and Colorado Avalanche, recording two penalty minutes. In his career with the Moose, which includes a short stint in 1998-99, he has 14 goals and 30 assists for 44 points and 97 penalty minutes in 105 games played. In his American Hockey League career, he has 28 goals and 75 assists for 103 points and 187 penalty minutes in 251 games played. The last NHL action he saw was in 2001-02 with Colorado.
Obsut was signed by Vancouver as a free agent on July 10, 2002. He was originally drafted by the Winnipeg Jets, 188th overall in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft.
