Milwaukee Admirals News Release
THE WEEK AHEAD...The Milwaukee Admirals (18-13-5-2) will be looking to pickup momentum on Bradley Center ice heading into the second half of the AHL season. The Admirals are 8-8-2 through the first 18 home games. After three home games this week the Admirals embark on a grueling four-game road trip. On Thursday, the Admirals face the Rochester Americans in the first of two meetings this season. The Admirals are 2-1-0-1 lifetime vs. the Americans, including 2-0 on Bradley Center ice. Milwaukee also eliminated Rochester from Calder Cup playoff competition last season winning two of three Bradley Center mini-series meetings. The San Antonio Rampage visit the Bradley Center on Saturday night. The Admirals are 8-4-2-0 in 14 lifetime games vs. the Rampage, including 4-1-1-0 at the Bradley Center. In four previous meetings vs. San Antonio this season Milwaukee is 3-1, but are 0-1 in Milwaukee. On Sunday afternoon, the Grand Rapids Griffins make their final 2003-04 Milwaukee visit. The Admirals are 1-3 vs. the Griffins this season and 1-2 at the Bradley Center.
LAST WEEK'S ACTION...The Admirals picked up three points in last week's action. On Saturday night, rookie Timofei Shishkanov scored two goals in a 3-3 tie at Cincinnati. The Admirals rebounded from a 2-0 deficit and outshot the Mighty Ducks, 48-26. On Friday night the Admirals almost came back from a 4-1 deficit, but fell short losing to the St. Johns Maple Leafs, 4-3. Mathieu Darche scored a pair of goals for Milwaukee. The Admirals split a pair of games early in the week in Utah. On Monday night they shut out the Grizzlies behind Wade Flaherty's 26-save performance, before falling to the Grizzlies, 2-1, on Wednesday. Tony Hrkac provided the Admirals only goal.
TRANSACTIONS... The Nashville reassigned forward Simon Gamache to the Admirals. Gamache, 23, posted one goal in seven games with the Predators after being recalled from Milwaukee on December 27th.
SHUTOUT HISTORY...The 6-0 shutout victory against Utah on Monday night was the Admirals fourth shutout of the season and the second on the road. The Admirals' team records for shutouts in a season were both established during the 2000-2001 season when Milwaukee goaltenders Chris Mason and Jan Lasak accounted for six overall and three on the road. It was also the largest road shutout by the Admirals since February 20, 1986 when goaltender Jim Ralph made 29 saves in a 6-0 victory over the IHL's Indianapolis Checkers.
ADMIRALS LEADERS...Darren Haydar (11g-17) and Tony Hrkac (10g-18a) share the Admirals scoring lead with 28 points each. Hrkac brings a seven-game scoring streak into this week's action. The 5'11", 190-pound veteran center has six goals, 13 points, and a +9 rating over the past seven games. Haydar has scored at least one point in nine of his last 11 outings (5g-8a) and has 15 points (6g-9a) in his past 13 games. Left wing Mathieu Darche leads Admirals' goal scorers with 15 tallies and has 17 points (9g-8a) over his last 16 AHL games. The 6'1", 210-pounder also leads the team in plus/minus with +13. Hrkac has dished off 18 assists to top Admirals playermakers, while Haydar and defenseman Curtis Murphy have 17 each.
BALANCING ACT... Entering this weekend's action, the Admirals boast the AHL's most potent offense averaging 3.13 goals per game, but you won't find any Admirals among the leagues leaders in scoring. The Admirals have featured a balanced attack with a league high eight twenty-point scorers. Defenseman Curtis Murphy (6g-17a) and Brad Tiley (4g-16a) rank in the top twelve among AHL defensemen in scoring with 23 and 20 points respectively. Timofei Shishkanov ranks sixth among AHL rookie scorers with 24 points (12g-12a).
SEGAL'S FIRST...Admirals rookie forward Brandon Segal scored his first professional goal in Saturday night's game at Cincinnati. The 6'3", 215 pound Richmond, B.C. native also finished the game +3 and through his first five professional games has two points (1g-1a) and a +5 rating.
