Amerks' Bartovic named Sher-Wood AHL Player of the Week

SPRINGFIELD, MA ... The American Hockey League announced today that Rochester Americans right wing Milan Bartovic has been named the Sher-Wood AHL Player of the Week for the period ending January 18, 2004. In three games, Bartovic recorded five goals and one assist for six points to extend his personal scoring streak to 10 games.

Bartovic recorded two goals and one assist on Wednesday night in a 6-4 Rochester loss at Albany, scored a shorthanded goal to begin the Amerks' comeback in a 4-3 win over Cleveland, and finished with two goals in a 6-2 win over Toronto on Saturday. Bartovic has 10 goals and four assists for 14 points during his 10-game streak, and also has tallied a goal in five straight outings, tied for the longest such streak in the AHL this season.

In recognition of his achievement, Bartovic will receive a Sher-Wood leather jacket, presented to him during an on-ice ceremony prior to an upcoming game. In addition, Sher-Wood will donate five travel bags to the Tri-County Golden Eagles youth hockey organization in Bartovic's name.

A second-round draft choice by the Buffalo Sabres in 1999, Bartovic has recorded 16 goals and six assists for 22 points in 41 games with the Americans this season. The native of Trencin, Slovakia, has totaled 50 goals and 28 assists in 190 career AHL matches with Rochester, and last year recorded one goal in three NHL contests with the Sabres. On Apr. 6, 2003, Bartovic played in two games on the same day, helping Buffalo to a 2-2 tie with New Jersey in the afternoon, then helping Rochester clinch a playoff spot with a 4-2 win over Hamilton.
