Admirals Pull Past Rampage
January 7, 2010 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI- On a snowy Thursday night in Milwaukee, a solid two point performance by Dave Scatchard and late third period heroics by Peter Olvecky pushed the Admirals past the San Antonio Rampage with a 3-2 win.
Milwaukee got things going early when a hooking penalty called on San Antonio's Stu Bickel at 4:12 of the first period gave the Admirals their first power play opportunity of the evening. Controlling the puck in the Ads offensive zone, Defenseman Robert Dietrich found Colin Wilson at the top of the left circle. Wilson was able to locate Dave Scatchard crashing the net, who punched the puck past Rampage netminder Justin Pogge.
It was Scatchard's eleventh goal of year in only sixteen games with the Admirals, supplied the team with an early 1-0 lead.
At 6:18 of the second period the Admirals found themselves the victims of some bad luck around their own net. A hustling Andrew Orpich, driving hard just to the right of the net, was able to slap the puck in the general direction of teammate Justin Bernhardt. In an apparent attempt to center it, Bernhardt slapped the puck off the shoulder of an unsuspecting Admirals' center Wacey Rabbit and into the Milwaukee net, knotting the score at 1-1.
The Admirals answered the Rampage goal at 10:48 of the second period when Dave Scatchard was able to find a surging Mark Santorelli in the San Antonio slot. Santorelli fired a quick wrister past Rampage goalie Justin Pogge, beating him stick side for the lead at 2-1. The goal was Santorelli's eighth of the season. Mark Matheson joined Scatchard with an assist on the play.
It appeared the Admirals were in the clear but at 18:10 of the third period San Antonio's Sean Sullivan beat Dekanich stick-side on a shot from the high slot to tie up the game.
With the game heading into overtime, a late surge with under a minute remaining gave the Admirals enough scoring to put the Rampage away for the good on the night. On his second attempt from point-blank range, Milwaukee's Peter Olvecky was able to find the back of the net with just 29 seconds left and secure the 3-2 win, giving the Admirals a fourth win out of five games against San Antonio so far this season.
The Admirals return home Saturday night at 7:30 pm against the Toronto Marlies. All fans in attendance will take home an Admirals team picture, courtesy of Center Court Pub & Grille.
