Columbus Assigns Center Derek Mackenzie

Syracuse, NY (January 7, 2010) - The Syracuse Crunch announced today that the Columbus Blue Jackets have assigned center Derek MacKenzie to the Crunch.

MacKenzie, 28, has appeared in 20 games for the Crunch this season, tallying five goals, 11 assists and 14 penalty minutes. He has also skated in 17 games with Columbus this year collecting one goal and three assists.

In 523 career AHL games with the Crunch and Chicago, MacKenzie has recorded 135 goals, 166 assists and 551 penalty minutes. He has also appeared in 63 combined NHL games with Columbus and Atlanta, notching three goals, five assists and 30 penalty minutes.

A native of Sudbury, Ontario, MacKenzie was originally selected by Atlanta in the fifth round, 128th overall, in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft. He was signed by Columbus as a free agent on July 11, 2007 and again on July 14, 2008.

The Crunch travel to Norfolk for a two-game set with the Admirals on Friday, January 8 and Saturday, January 9.
