Norfolk Admirals News Release

The Norfolk Admirals lost a tough game to the Hershey Bears 3-2 on Saturday night at Giant Center in Hershey, PA.

The Bears jumped into the lead on two even strength goals in the opening frame. Hershey center Dave Steckel's wrap-around attempt failed to go into the net, but the puck ended up on the blade of teammate Eric Fehr. Fehr shot the puck past Admirals' netminder Corey Crawford at the 8:10 mark. Seven minutes later, Fehr fed Brooks Laich the puck at the near face-off circle. Laich got a shot off as Admirals' defenseman Brian Lee knocked him into the crease. The puck trickled over the goal line to give Hershey a 2-0 advantage 15:23 into the first. The score at the first intermission was 2-0 in favor of Hershey.

Fehr continued his scoring spree early in the second. With the Bears on a five-on-three power play, Fehr took a pass from Joey Tenute and beat Crawford to give the Bears a 3-0 lead 1:03 into the stanza. However, the Admirals controlled most of the play for the remainder of the period. Just over the midway mark of the game, Admirals defenseman Brian Lee sent a long outlet pass to forward Jim Henkel at the Hershey blueline. Henkel skated in on Daubenspeck and beat the Bears backstop stick-side high 11:30 into the second. Then with just over a minute to go in the period, Admirals veteran Quintin Laing dropped a pass to defenseman Nick Kuiper at the blueline. Daubenspeck stopped Kuiper's one-timer, but forward Martin St. Pierre beat the Hershey netminder glove side on a tough-angle wrister at the 18:50 mark. The Admirals out-shot the Bears 17-3 in the period and the cut the Bears' lead to one goal at the second break.

The Admirals played a large part of the third period shorthanded, but successfully killed three Hershey power plays. With just seconds remaining, Martin St. Pierre one-timed a puck that beat Daubenspeck but clanged off the crossbar. The Bears held on to win the contest 3-2.

Kirk Daubenspeck picked up the win for Hershey saving 32 of 34 shots. Corey Crawford was saddled with the loss for Norfolk while stopping 24 of 27 shots.

Norfolk was 0-6 on the power play while Hershey was 1-8.
