Cleveland Barons News Release

CLEVELAND, OH - Mike Iggulden, Steve Bernier, and Lukas Kaspar scored second period goals for the Barons en route to a 4-2 win over visiting Milwaukee on Saturday night. Bernier's goal extended his point streak to four consecutive games to begin his pro career.

Milwaukee goaltender Pekka Rinne made just his second start on North American soil for the Admirals and was excellent all night, including 14-saves in the opening frame of play. The Barons were issued a five-minute power play just 32-seconds into the game after Milwaukee forward Jordin Tootoo was kicked out of the game for a boarding penalty. The Barons peppered many shots on goal, but couldn't figure out the net minder. The period came to a close with the Barons out-shooting Milwaukee 14-4 through twenty minutes.

On Friday night Iggulden snapped the Barons power play drought with a special teams goal at Toronto. One night later he would add another to give the Barons a 1-0 lead. With 8:21 to play in the second period, Iggulden positioned himself in front of the Admirals net and received a perfect pass from Barons defenseman Tim Conboy for the score. Ray DiLauro also assisted on the score, registering his first point in a Barons uniform. Twenty-four seconds later Kaspar tallied his second of the season converting a two-on-one break with Craig Valette, who earned the goals lone assist. Bernier capped the period's scoring with a wrap-around strike against Rinne with 11-seconds remaining in the period. Bernier's goal was assisted by Iggulden and Patrick Rissmiller. The Barons dominated the Admirals out-shooting the visitors, 17-4 during the period.

Milwaukee's Head Coach, Claude Noel, must have lit a fire under his team during the intermission as the squad responded with a spirited comeback bid in the third period. Scottie Upshall got the scoring started with his first of the season at the 6:42 mark off a great pass play with Kris Beech. Then Brandon Segal surprised the Barons with a short-handed goal to trim the lead to 3-2. But the comeback fell short when Cleveland defender Josh Gorges scored a late empty net goal to secure the Barons first win of the year.

Nolan Schaefer made his second straight start in goal for the Barons posting 18-saves for his first win of the year in three attempts. The Barons out-shot Milwaukee 41-20 in the game.

The Barons begin a four-game road stretch on Friday night at Rochester. They won't return home until November 1st when they host the Hershey Bears at 7 O'clock. Tickets for all regular season games are on sale now and group discounted tickets are available by calling the Barons at 216-420-0000.
