Admirals Host Rockford Friday with First Place on the Line
February 5, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI - The Admirals return to the ice this weekend for three games, including a home-and-home series with the Rockford IceHogs with first place in the Midwest Division on the line. The two teams will begin the two-game set on Friday night at 7 pm at the BMO Harris Bradley Center and then play in Rockford on Saturday night at 7.
The IceHogs currently lead the division with 56 points on a 26-14-4-2 record, while the Admirals are two points behind with 56, via a 25-13-2-4 mark. An Ads win in regulation Friday night would give each team 58 points, but because Milwaukee has played two fewer games they would own the first tie-breaker by virtue of a better points percentage.
The Ads and Hogs have already played eight times this season, with the Ads holding a 5-3 record, including wins in their past two match-ups.
This match-up presents two of the best defenses in the Western Conference with Rockford allowing only 102 goals on the year and the Ads giving up 103, second and third, respectively, in the conference.
Milwaukee's D is anchored by All-Star goalie Magnus Hellberg, whose 1.80 goals against average is the best in the AHL and Marek Mazanec, who was just reassigned from Nashville earlier this week and was won his past five games with the Ads.
The IceHogs are rock solid in net as well with reigning AHL Goalie of the Month Michael Leighton (12-7-4, 2.01 GAA, .931 save %) and former Admiral Scott Darling (11-7-2, 2.18 GAA, .929 save %).
Following the two games with Rockford the Ads will finish up the weekend by hosting the Rochester Americans at 3 pm on Sunday afternoon.
