Norfolk Admirals News Release

NORFOLK, Va. - The Norfolk Admirals (34-28-3-3) fell in a shootout to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (36-24-3-4) 3-2 on Saturday night at Norfolk Scope Arena. The score for the game and the shootout session (1-0) was identical to the game between the same teams the night before at Scope.

The third-place Admirals will travel to Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, on Wednesday to battle with the fourth-place Penguins. They will return to Scope on Friday and Saturday to face the Adirondack Phantoms.

The Sound Tigers took a 1-0 lead late in the first period. Veteran NHLer Brendan Witt sent a shot from the right point. Tyler Haskins was stationed at the right hashmarks of the slot and deflected the shot down and through the legs of Norfolk netminder Dustin Tokarski at 16:03.

The Admirals tied the game at 1-1 midway through the second stanza. Juraj Simek got the puck on a partial breakaway and scored his 19th goal of the season with a shot that beat Bridgeport goaltender Scott Munroe stick-side high at 7:32.

Norfolk took a 2-1 lead just 37 seconds into the third period with a four-on-four goal. Dana Tyrell sped down the right wing and circled behind the net. He centered a pass into the slot where Matt Fornataro chipped a one-timer over the right leg of Lawson for his eighth goal of the season.

The Sound Tigers knotted the score at 2-2 just over five minutes later. Jesse Joensuu sent a pass from the bottom of the right circle to Jeremy Reich for a back-door tap-in goal at 5:44.

Neither team dented the twine in the remainder of regulation or overtime. In the shootout, Bridgeport forward Trevor Smith had the only conversion for either team in the bottom of the first round as the Admirals fell in the shootout 1-0 and in the game 3-2.

Dustin Tokarski (25 shots, 23 saves) was saddled with the shootout loss again. Nathan Lawson (31 shots, 29 saves) got the win.

Norfolk was 0-2 on the power play. Bridgeport was 0-3.
