Admirals Fall to Toronto
March 13, 2010 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI- In front of a season high crowd of 15,253 the Milwaukee Admirals special teams were as cold as ice Saturday night in a 3-2 loss to the Toronto Marlies. The Ads penalty kill allowed two Toronto power play goals and the Ads power play went 0-7 at the Bradley Center.
Toronto got on the board first when Ryan Hamilton collected a long pass in the neutral zone, fought off the check of Ads defensemen Nolan Yonkman and snapped a shot over Mark Dekanich's blocker at 8:56 of the opening period. The breakaway goal launched with Andre Deveaux and Phil Oreskovic making crisp breakout passes and both received assists for their part.
The Admirals knotted the game when Dave Scatchard wristed a shot over the blocker of Toronto goaltender James Reimer at 8:44 of the second. Scatchard broke down the ice with newly acquired Mark Murray, weaved to the slot where he would shoot across his body to the back of the net. Andres Thuresson received an assist for his breakout pass to Scatchard.
At 11:38 of the third Toronto's Kyle Calder shot and scored five hole on Dekanich giving the Marlies a 2-1 lead. The Ads penalty kill didn't pressure Calder who set up just below the face off dot and picked his spot. Brendan Mikkelson and Deveaux were both rewarded with assists on the go ahead goal.
Penalties bit the Ads again in the third when Alex Foster redirected Josh Engels shot with 11:38 left in the final period. Josh Engel's shot from the sideboard to the front of the net looked harmless but the traffic in front of Dekanich caused the puck to slip by the Admirals goaltender. Engel and Mikkelson received assists on the game winning goal.
Ben Guite's one-timer was too little too late, with only thirty-four seconds left in third to give the Ads a late chance. Guite was waiting in the slot with the extra attacker on the ice and smacked a slap shot past Murray. Mike Santorelli and Jonathon Blum both assisted on the goal.
Milwaukee's goalie Mark Dekanich turned 14 of 17 shots away in the loss and Toronto's Reimer stopped 27 of 29 Admiral shots.
