Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
HAMILTON, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs announced today that they have clinched a Calder Cup playoff berth for the second consecutive year and 11th time in their 14-season history. Their opponent and start date are still to be determined. 'Dogs General Manager Julien BriseBois also announced today that the club has assigned forward Maxime Lacroix to the Cincinnati Cyclones of the ECHL.
Hamilton currently sits in first place in the North Division with a record of 43-15-3-5 and 94 points, 18 more points than any other team in the division. The 'Dogs are chasing after their third regular season divisional title having won the Canadian Division in 2002-2003 and the North Division in 2003-2004. There are three different scenarios for the Bulldogs to clinch the North Division title:
1) The magic number for Hamilton to clinch the North Division over second place Rochester is 11 points. Any points picked up by the Bulldogs or not picked up by the Americans will reduce the number.
2) The magic number for Hamilton to clinch the North Division over third place Abbotsford is seven points. Any points picked up by the Bulldogs or not picked up by the Heat will reduce the number.
3) The magic number for Hamilton to clinch the North Division over fourth place Manitoba is five points. Any points picked up by the Bulldogs or not picked up by the Moose will reduce the number
Lacroix, 22, played in 21 games with the Bulldogs this season earning one assist and two penalty minutes. In 33 games with the Cyclones in 2009-2010, the 6-foot, 190-pound left winger has posted 22 points (14 goals, eight assists). Last season, the native of Quebec City, Quebec recorded 64 points (33 goals, 31 assists) in 63 regular season games with the South Carolina Stingrays of the ECHL where he won the Kelly Cup Championship with the club. Lacroix was drafted by the Washington Capitals in the 5th round, 127th overall in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
