Bulldogs down Griffins in shootout

Hamilton, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs defeated the Grand Rapids Griffins 4-3 in a shootout on Saturday night at Copps Coliseum. P.K. Subban had a goal and an assist while three out of four Bulldogs players scored in the shootout.

The Bulldogs opened up the game's scoring at 2:26 of the first frame. Subban intercepted a clearing attempt by the Griffins while positioned at the right point. Subban blasted a shot that sailed past traffic, over the blocker of Grand Rapids starting goaltender Thomas McCollum and into the top of the net.

The Griffins tied the game 1-1 at 15:00 of the opening stanza. Patrick Rissmiller stripped the puck from a Bulldogs defender before snapping a shot over the blocker of Hamilton starting goaltender Curtis Sanford. Grand Rapids took a 2-1 lead at 18:40. Mattias Ritola intercepted a pass from a Hamilton player before skating in alone on Sanford. Ritola flipped a shot over the pad of a sprawled Sanford and into the back of the net.

The ‘Dogs tied the game 2-2 at 3:45 of the second stanza. Shawn Belle received the puck from Ryan Russell before sending a cross-ice pass to David Desharnais, who was located at the right side of the net. Desharnais stopped the puck with his skate before firing a shot past McCollum and into the top of the net. %0
