Admirals Go North Of The Border

OVERALL...The Admirals enter this week's action with an 11-7-0-1 record and 23 points, which puts them in a tie for fourth place in the West Division with Peoria. Milwaukee trails second place Iowa and Rockford by three points and are up just one point on sixth place Houston and Quad City. The Ads have played 19 games on the season, which is two less than every other team in the division. The Admirals will continue their five-game road trip with just two games this week. Milwaukee will play at Hamilton on Thursday and then travel to Toronto on Saturday.

VS. HAMILTON...The Admirals travel to Hamilton on Thursday night to battle the Bulldogs in the first of two match-ups between the two clubs this season. Last year the Admirals swept the season series, including a 2-1 victory over the Dogs on December 8. In 20 all-time meetings with Hamilton, the Ads have recorded a 10-7-1-2 mark, including a 4-5-1-0 record at the Copps Coliseum. The two team's will meet at the Bradley Center on Sunday, March 22nd at 4:00 pm.

VS. TORONTO...The Admirals will finish their lone trip to Ontario this season when they visit the Toronto Marlies on Saturday night. Last season the Admirals were 2-0 against the Marlies, and have now won five consecutive games against Toronto. In 16 career meetings between the Toronto Marlies/St. John's Maple Leafs, Milwaukee has posted a 10-4-1-1 record. In eight lifetime match-ups with the Marlies the Admirals are 6-2, including a 2-2 mark at the Ricoh Coliseum.

LAST WEEK...Milwaukee posted a 2-1 record last week beating Peoria 4-1 on Wednesday night before splitting a weekend set with Houston. Against Peoria, Milwaukee scored four unanswered goals after falling behind 1-0 early in the first period. Stephen Werner, Mike Santorelli, Tim Ramholt, and Hugh Jessiman each lit the lamp for the Admirals, while Drew MacIntyre stopped 15 shots to earn his eighth win of the season. On Friday night the Admirals posted a come-from-behind OT win, thanks in part to Mike Santorelli's game-tying goal at 14:01 of the third and Ryan Jones game-winner in overtime at 3:49. Then on Sunday the Admirals took a 2-1 lead on Kelsey Wilson's first-period, power-play tally, but then surrendered three unanswered goals to drop a 4-2 decision.

PICKING UP THE PACE...After starting slowly out of the gates, at least from a scoring perspective, second-year center Mike Santorelli has turned up the offense as of late. His first period marker Sunday afternoon extended his point scoring streak to seven games (4g-6a) and marked the fourth consecutive contest he has lit the lamp. The hot streak has pushed the Vancouver, BC native into second place on the Admirals scoring list with 16 points (5g-11) on the season.

FLUKE GOAL SET MARK...When the Aeros' Clayton Stoner's dump-in attempt hit a seam on the boards and ricocheted into the Milwaukee net six seconds into the third period on Friday it set a new Milwaukee franchise record for quickest goal allowed at the beginning of a period. The previous record was established on April 11, 1999 when David Ling of the Kansas City Blades scored just eight seconds into the third in Kansas City's 6-5 shoot-out win over the Admirals. Stoner's goal was also the first short-handed marker the Admirals had surrendered this season, leaving Manitoba as the only AHL team who has not given up a shorty.

HIT THE ROAD JACK...The Admirals are in the midst of a five-game road trip, which equals their longest of the season. This is the first of three five-game road trips for Milwaukee on the season. Following a pair of games with Houston last weekend, the Ads will go north of the boarder to battle Hamilton and Toronto on Thursday and Saturday before finishing the trip with a game in Quad City on Wednesday, December 10th. This is just the second time in franchise history that the Admirals have three five-game trips on the schedule. The only other occasion was the 1980-81 season when the team had two five-gamers and a seven-game swing. In addition, the Ads will be on the road for seven of their next nine games.

DOUBLE-HEADERS...The Admirals finished up an odd quirk in their schedule this past weekend as their pair of games against Houston marked the fourth time in the team's last nine games that Milwaukee has played the same team two games in a row. The stretch started with a home-and-home set with Rockford, before the Ads hosted Grand Rapids for two straight and then headed to Iowa for a pair of contests with the Chops. The team's lone single-game match-up was last Wednesday night against Peoria. So far this year Milwaukee is 7-3 when battling the same opponent in two straight.

OVER THE AIR AND ON THE WEB...For the second consecutive season Sportsradio 1250 WSSP will serve as the Admirals flagship station with Aaron Sims calling all of the hard-hitting end-to-end action. In addition, the team has a one-hour hockey magazine dubbed "Milwaukee Admirals Center Ice" that airs every Monday from 6-7 pm on WSSP.
