
P-Bruins Release Martin from PTO

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, in their 17th season in the American Hockey League, announced that defenseman Derick Martin has been released from his Professional Tryout Agreement. With the move, the P-Bruins have 24 players on their roster, including 14 forwards, seven defensemen and three goaltenders.
Martin, 26, joined Providence on October 16 and appeared in 14 games, going scoreless while accumulating 12 penalty minutes and a minus-four rating. The fifth-year blue-liner suited up for three different teams in 2007-08, including the AHL's Peoria Rivermen, the Alaska Aces of the ECHL, and Strasbourg in France.
In his career, Martin has also spent time with the Lubbock Cotton Kings in the Central Hockey League and the ECHL's Long Beach Ice Dogs, Columbia Inferno and Texas Wildcatters. As a pro in North America, Martin has 80 points (17g, 63a) and 230 penalty minutes in 237 games.
Before to turning pro, the undrafted native of Timmins, Ontario, played for the St. Mary's University Cardinals and the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's Hull Olympiques.
