Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Peoria, IL--Goalie Jeremy Smith stopped 33 shots to lead the Milwaukee Admirals to a 2-0 win over the Peoria Rivermen Saturday night in Peoria.
Smith earned his fourth shutout and 26th win of the season as he and the Admirals held the potent Rivermen scoreless for the first time this season. The Rivermen went 0-5 on the power play.
After several chances were wide or off a post, for both teams, it was Milwaukee which struck first with a power play goal at 12:50 of the second period.
With David Shields in the penalty box for tripping Admirals forward Chris Mueller, Milwaukee won the ensuing faceoff. Victor Bartley controlled at the left point and dished to the top of the left circle for Kyle Wilson. Wilson's slapshot deflected off Ryan Thang and came to Latta for the backhander into the net past goalie Jake Allen. Latta, who missed 20 games with an injury, scored his first goal since Jan. 13. It was his 13th overall and second on the power play. The assists went to Thang and Wilson.
Milwaukee got the insurance goal at 11:57 of the third period when Mark Van Guilder stole the puck from Rivermen defenseman Mark Cundari along the left wing boards in the Peoria zone. He shoved the puck to Joel Champagne who fired a shot over the glove of Allen. Champagne's sixth of the season was assisted by Van Guilder.
The win gave Milwaukee the season series seven games to five. Milwaukee won the first five between the teams, Peoria took the next five and Milwaukee won the last two.
