Albany Devils News Release

NORFOLK, Va. - For the second consecutive night, the Albany Devils turned up one goal shy, 4-3, against the Norfolk Admirals, who extend their winning streak to 20 games - the longest in North American hockey history. The Devils lived and died by special teams play, scoring shorthanded and on the power play. Unfortunately, Norfolk had a man-up goal and another score just as an Albany penalty expired, which seemed too costly.

Matt Anderson made things close with 1:21 remaining, but the Devils couldn't find the equalizer as they move to 28-28-6-5. The Admirals, who also won Friday 2-1, improves to a league-best 47-18-1-2.

Along with Anderson, Vladimir Zharkov and Mattias Tedenby scored. In goal, Keith Kinkaid made 35 saves in his 37th appearance.

For Norfolk, Ondrej Palat had a goal and an assist and Alex Killorn, Tyler Johnson and Alexandre Picard also had goals. Between the pipes, Dustin Tokarski picked up the win with 35 saves as well.

Scoring started early as Palat found the back of the net just 60 seconds into the game.

The Devils responded with their seventh shorthanded goal when Zharkov forced a turnover high in the defensive end. He corralled the puck and raced to the offensive end to beat Tokarski at 13:29 of the first. The marker was Zharkov's third shorthanded and 15th overall.

In the second, Albany seized the lead when Tedenby snapped a shot from the right face-off circle with the man advantage at 8:42. The goal, which was his fourth, was setup by Eric Gelinas and Joe Whitney.

From there back-to-back goals by the Admirals took control of the game. Recent ATO signee, Alex Killorn, registered his first career goal at 15:02 of the second. The team's third score came off the twig of Tyler Johnson at 1:06 on the power play in the third period. The score was his 29th of the season.

Picard provided the winner at 13:55 as a Devils penalty kill expired.

Head coach Rick Kowalsky's gamble of pulling Kinkaid for an extra attacker with 2:33 remaining almost paid off. Anderson netted his 10th goal of the season from Brad Mills and Peter Harrold to slide Albany within one. Despite having several chances within the final 30 seconds, the Devils exited the weekend with two straight loses. Albany returns home Wednesday for a special 11:30 a.m. game against the Rochester Americans for a "School Day Matinee Game." Fans can follow the action on ahllive.com.
