Omaha, NE - The Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights battled back from an early 3-0 deficit but were once again beaten in a shootout, losing 5-4 to the Milwaukee Admirals at the Civic Auditorium. Dave Moss had two goals, and Matt Lombardi, down from the Calgary Flames on a one-game conditioning stint, had a goal and an assist.

The Admirals built a 3-0 lead before the first period was over. Darren Haydar sandwiched a shorthanded goal and an even-strength goal around a powerplay tally by Jason Notermann. Haydar's second goal came with just 51 seconds remaining in the period.

The Knights struck early in the second period when Moss tipped home a shot by Richie Regehr on a powerplay to make it 3-1. They drew to within one when Lombardi stuffed home the rebound of a shot by Cam Severson at 16:57. Referee Bob Langdon did not initially signal a goal until conferring with linesman Scott Bokal. The goal left the Knights down by just one at the intermission.

Jordin Tootoo scored what look to be a backbreaking goal when he threw a wrist shot past Brent Krahn just 2:11 into the third period.

But the Knights responded on a five-on-three powerplay. Moss tucked in a feed from Lombardi for his second goal of the game. Eric Nystrom then tied the game at 11:07 when he raced to a loose puck, roared down the left wing and blew a shot over the shoulder of goalie Michel Robinson. His fourth goal of the year was also shorthanded.

Both teams had a powerplay in overtime but couldn't convert. The Admirals won the shootout 2-1 in five rounds. Timofei Shishkanov had the deciding goal. Lombardi scored the only Knights' goal. It was the Knights' second loss to Milwaukee in a shootout. Overall, Omaha is now one and six in the shootout this season.

The Knights are now 12-11-0-6. They finish off this home-and-home series when they visit the Admirals on Friday at 7:00 p.m.

Tickets for all home games are on sale at the Civic Auditorium box office, Monday through Friday, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., on Sunday from noon through game time and at all Ticketmaster outlets. Tickets may be purchased by calling 422-1212 or at Ticketmaster.com.
