Norfolk Admirals News Release

MANCHESTER, N.H. - Nick Shore found the back of the net twice and proved to be the difference maker as the Manchester Monarchs defeated the Norfolk Admirals, 5-2, on Saturday night.

The early moments of the first period have not been kind to the Norfolk Admirals lately. That trend continued on Saturday night against the Manchester Monarchs. Just 4:05 into the opening frame, Monarchs center Jordan Weal got loose and ripped a shot past Yann Danis, who made his 10th straight start in the Admirals' net. Zach O'Brien and Justin Auger recorded the assists as the Monarchs took the early 1-0 lead. Manchester skated off the ice with a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes.

The Monarchs added to their lead at the 7:13 mark of the second period. On a 2-on-1 break, Nick Shore's shot barely trickled through Danis' legs and over the goal line. Andy Andreoff and Brian O'Neill received the helpers to give Manchester a 2-0 advantage. That lead would stand thanks to a total of 21 saves by Monarchs' goalie Jean-Francois Berube as both teams headed into the final frame.

Just as the third period began, Michael Mersch found himself in the right place at the right time, tapping a puck by Danis. Nic Dowd and Derek Forbort recorded the assists at 2:08 of the third to put the Monarchs up 3-0. Norfolk scored a similar goal moments later to close within two. Matt Bailey swept a bouncing puck beneath Berube after Antoine Laganiere fired a shot on goal. David MacDonald also drew an assist on the tally at 5:14 to cut the Monarchs lead to 3-1.

Norfolk's comeback hopes were put on hold minutes later as Zach O'Brien poked home a rebound after Manchester had sustained heavy pressure in the Admirals' zone. The marker at 11:43 made the score 4-1 Monarchs. Nick Shore added another at 14:02, but the Admirals did not give up. Charlie Sarault poked home his first goal of the season, thanks to help from Brandon Yip and Kevin Gagne. The goal at 14:49 made the score 5-2 in favor of the Monarchs. The Admirals didn't score again and Manchester earned the home victory.

Berube stopped 30 of 32 shots for the Monarchs, while Danis turned aside 31 of 36.

The Monarchs went 0-for-3 with the man-advantage, and the Admirals went 0-for-4.

The Admirals wrap up their six-game road trip tomorrow afternoon with a second straight bout at Manchester. The puck drops at 3 p.m.
