December 6, 2014 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Springfield Falcons News Release
Hartford, Conn. - The Springfield Falcons advanced to an 11-game winning streak with a 1-0 shootout win over the Hartford Wolf Pack tonight at the XL Center.
Sean Collins netted the game-winning goal in the first round of the shootout to top the Wolf Pack. This was the Falcons' first shootout of the season.
The victory puts the Falcons on top of the American Hockey League beside the Utica Comets with 35 points. The team also increases to 17-7-1-0 on the season and take a 1-0-0-0 lead in the 10-game season series against the Wolf Pack. Hartford picks up its first shootout loss and moves to 11-9-2-1.
Springfield goaltender Anton Forsberg earned his 10th straight win with a shutout, stopping all 30 shots in regulation and turning aside all three shots in the shootout. Hartford goaltender Cedrick Desjardins turned aside 31 shots in regulation and allowed one goal in two shootout attempts. Neither team was able to convert on five power play opportunities.
After a scoreless 60 minutes and overtime period, the teams went to a shootout.
Hartford elected to go first, sending Chris Bourque, who was unable to get by Forsberg. Collins tallied the only goal of the contest. He skated in from the left side, faked a shot and backhanded the puck passed Desjardins.
Neither Danny Kristo or Alexander Wennberg were able to net a shot in the second round. The Falcons secured their 1-0 victory when Forsberg stopped Chris Mueller in the third round.
