Bulldogs Down Marlies 4-2

TORONTO, ONT. - Three points each from Hamilton Bulldogs forwards Charles Hudon and Michael Bournival led the 'Dogs (11-10-2-0) to a 4-2 win over the Toronto Marlies (7-13-2-0) on Saturday evening at Ricoh Coliseum in Toronto, Ont.

Toronto forward Spencer Abbott opened the scoring on the power play 3:17 into the first period when he slid a backhand shot between the legs of Hamilton goaltender Joey MacDonald. Forward Josh Leivo had the only assist on the play.

Bournival tied the game 1-1 with a tip of a point shot by defenceman Mac Bennett at 12:34 of the opening frame for his second goal of the season. Hudon had a second assist.

Leivo put a shot over a sprawling MacDonald three minutes after that to put the Marlies ahead again, 2-1. Forward Ryan Rupert and defenceman Viktor Loov drew assists.

On the power play at 6:51 of the second period, Hudon followed up on a rebound with a slap shot and buried his eighth goal and 25th point on the year, taking over sole possession of first in the American Hockey League's scoring race at the time of the goal. Forwards Nick Sorkin and T.J. Hensick collected assists.

Midway through the third period, Hamilton forward Daniel Carr found the puck in traffic and put a wrister past Toronto goaltender Christopher Gibson for his fifth goal of the season and the eventual game-winning goal, assisted by Hudon and Bournival.

Bournival added an empty-net goal at 18:37 of the third period for his third marker of the season to make it a 4-2 game, assisted by Sorkin and forward Jake Dowell.

MacDonald ma de 28 saves on 30 shots for the Bulldogs in the win, while Gibson stopped 20 of 23 shots faced for the Marlies in the loss.

Hamilton went 1-for-5 on the power play, while Toronto was 1-for-3 with a man advantage.
