SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Andrei Vasilevskiy recorded his sixth victory and first AHL shutout, stopping 34 shots for the Crunch (13-7-3-0), in a 2-0 win Saturday against Rochester (9-13-1-0).

The win was the Crunch's first time holding an opponent scoreless this season, and revenge against the Amerks who blanked the Crunch, 3-0, on Halloween.

"It was exciting [to get my first shut out]," the Russian goaltender said. "We play together and we win as a team."

With the strength of Vasilevskiy in the net, Syracuse only needed one marker to secure two points in the standings. Jerome Samson scored his first goal of the season, when he tipped a Vladislav Namestnikov shot past the glove of Andrey Makarov 17:08 into the first period.

"I needed a little bit of a lucky bounce," Samson said about netting his first goal of the season. "I went hard to the net and it went off my stick. Not much, but it hit it enough to go in."

Samson netted 27 goals and 56 points last season as a member of the St. John's IceCaps. He has seven points (1g, 6a) this season.

Cody Kunyk recorded the second assist on the Samson goal, his eighth point of the season.

Namestnikov added an empty-net insurance tally in the third period to give him five points in two games back with the Crunch. .

Neither team scored on the power play with four chances each. The Americans had the final three power-play opportunities but Vasilevskiy and the defense closed the door.

Mike Angelidis and Philippe Paradis left the game early with injuries. Jake Dotchin missed the contest after a blocking a shot Friday. The Crunch rest until Wednesday when they visit the Springfield Falcons who have 11 consecutive wins and lead the Crunch by six points.
