Phantoms Goaltender Brian Stewart named Reebok/AHL Player of the Week
#35 - Brian Stewart- G - 4 GP (3-0-0-0, 223.36 total minutes, 1.34 GAA, .948 save %)
Rookie goalie Brian Stewart out of Northern Michigan University recorded his first three victories of the season in back-to-back-to-back one goal decisions on Friday, Saturday and Sunday to lead the Phantoms to their first three game win streak of the season. Stewart stopped 93 of 98 shots for the week including nine of ten in the shootout.

Three Games in Four Days this Week

This will be the fifth of twelve meetings between the Phantoms and Devils. Adirondack tied the Time Warner Cable Cup series at 2-2 with a win on home ice Saturday night over Albany 2-1. The Phantoms are coming off a perfect weekend and a 4-1 record this past week while Albany finished a 1-3 week following the holiday break. Michael Swift leads the attack for the Devils leading the team in goals (12) while Matt Anderson has a team high 22 points. Goaltender Jeff Frazee lost for the second time against the Phantoms is now 9-10-2 with a 2.80 GAA and .905 save percentage. Albany is ranked 27th in the AHL on the power play (13.2%) and are 29th in the league on the penalty kill (75.6%). Albany is 2-6-0-2 in their last ten and have struggled on home ice this season posting a 4-12-0-1 record.

This will be the third and fourth meetings between the Phantoms and Heat. The season series is tied at 1-1 with Adirondack taking the last game back on December 18, 2-1. This will be the only trip out west for the Phantoms to British Columbia. Abbotsford is coming off a week in which they played only one game (a 3-0 loss to Texas at home). Before meeting up with the Phantoms this weekend, the Heat take on the Manitoba Moose on Monday & Tuesday night in Abbotsford. Matt Keith leads the Heat in goals (12) while rookie forward Greg Nemisz has 18 points in 36 games. Goaltender Leland Irving has been strong in goal posting a 15-12-0-3 record with a 2.33 GAA and .911 save percentage. He ranks first in the league in shootout wins (5) and second in the AHL in overall minutes (1728). Abbotsford is 4-5-0-1 in their last ten and are currently on a 0-4-1-0 streak.

December 28, 2010 - Adirondack 2 @ Syracuse 0
After allowing seven goals on Sunday afternoon in Binghamton, Nic Riopel came back and shined in his first career AHL shutout making 26 saves. Greg Moore snapped his 32 game scoreless drought with his first of four goals on the week while Luke Pither (6th) also scored for the Phantoms. Both teams went 0-for-3 on the power play. Jon Kalinski returned for his first game since December 5. It marked the first win of the season for Phantoms coach Joe Paterson since he was at the helm in 2001 with the Louisville Panthers of the AHL.
December 29, 2010 - Manchester 6 @ Adirondack 2
After Manchester took a 6-0 lead, Brian Stewart made 16 saves in relief of goaltender Nic Riopel. Eric Wellwood (8th) and Greg Moore (2nd) scored for the Phantoms. Greg Moore extended his goal-scoring streak to two. Earlier in the day, the Philadelphia Flyers recalled defenseman Erik Gustafsson. Adirondack went 1-for-2 on the power play while Manchester went 1-for-5.
December 31, 2010 - Springfield 2 @ Adirondack 3 (SO)
Brian Stewart in his first start since December 15 against Connecticut earned his first victory of the season stopping 27 shots in regulation then all 4 in the shootout. Jonathon Kalinski gave the Phantoms an early 1-0 lead on their third short-handed goal of the season. David Savard's wrister from the right point beat Brian Stewart to the far post past his right skate to tie the score at the 13:05 mark of the second period. Four minutes later, Falcons forward Macsim Mayorov slapped one past Brian Stewart blocker side to give the Falcons their first lead of the game. Greg Moore tied the score at 2-2 early in the third period on a back-handed pass from Denis Hamel behind the net to beat Falcons goaltender David LeNeveu. The Phantoms and Falcons started overtime 3-on-3 after Rinaldo & Blunden got coincidental minors with 3 seconds left in regulation. Neither team scored leading to Adirondack's first shootout of the year. Michael Ryan and Luke Pither would score in the shootout to seal the victory for the Phantoms. Adirondack went 0-for-2 on the power play and 4-for-4 on the penalty kill.
January 1, 2010 - Albany 1 @ Adirondack 2
Greg Moore scored his fourth goal in as many games with 3:54 remaining in the third period to lead Adirondack to a 2-1 victory on Saturday night at the GFCC. On the goal, Luke Pither made a great play along the end boards to keep the puck in the zone. He would then fire a shot on net and Moore jammed home the rebound for his second game-winning goal of the week. Brian Stewart earned his second victory of the year making 18 saves while counterpart Jeff Frazee stopped 29 in defeat. Michael Ryan (4th) scored less than 4 minutes after Devils forward Michael Swift (12th) gave the Devils a 1-0 lead on the power play to tie the score at 1-1 on a feed from Eric Wellwood. Adirondack defenseman Marc-Andre Bourdon would leave the game in the first period with an undisclosed injury after his tilt in the first period with Devils defenseman Dan Kelly. The Phantoms went 0-for-4 on the power play and 1-for-2 on the penalty kill.
January 2, 2010 - Adirondack 3 @ Rochester 2 (SO)
After trailing 2-0 with less than 9 minutes remaining in the third period, Adirondack stormed back to tie the game at 2-2. Denis Hamel scored his twelfth goal of the year, on the power play and then Michael Ryan's his fifth of the year only one minute apart. LoVecchio (4th) and McArdle (9th) scored for the Americans in regulation. Phantoms goaltender Brian Stewart made 32 saves including one on a breakaway in overtime to help Adirondack to get to the shootout. In the shootout, he stopped four of the five Rochester shooters including Michael Repik, Bates Battaglia and Bill Thomas who all have spent time in the NHL over their careers. Stewart earned his third victory of the weekend including 93 of 98 shots total for a .948 save percentage. Greg Moore and Luke Pither scored for Adirondack in the shootout to help them improve to 2-0 on the season in the shootout.
