Montgomery Biscuits News Release
KODAK, Ten. - Willy Adames' go-ahead three-run blast in the ninth inning rallied the Biscuits (7-6) back after blowing a three-run lead in the eighth to beat the Tennessee Smokies (6-8) in a rollercoaster game, 6-5, on Wednesday afternoon.
Ryne Stanek (0-2) started the game on the mound for Montgomery, and the right-hander delivered his best performance of the season thus far, hurling four shutout innings while striking out five. The Biscuits bats came alive in the top of the fourth, when Jake Bauers took a 3-0 pitch from Tyler Skulina (1-1) over the right-centerfield wall for his second home run of the season. The Biscuits would add two more runs in the inning on a double by Granden Goetzman, and a fielder's choice off the bat of Johnny Field to lead 3-0.
That's how it stayed until the seventh when Billy McKinney came half a foot short of tying the game on a three-run homer off Parker Markel that banged off the top of the wall to score one. In the bottom the eighth, the Smokies would load the bases, and a hit-by-pitch from reliever Adam Kolarek to Jacob Hannemann made it 3-2, before a throwing error by second baseman Tommy Coyle brought in both the game-tying and go-ahead runs.
It was 4-3 in the ninth when Tennessee turned things over to David Garner (0-1) who allowed a leadoff walk to Kean Wong and a double to Bauers to bring up Adames. And the Rays number two prospect came through with his second home run of the season, an absolute moonshot to left, to give the lead back to the Biscuits at 6-4.
Brad Schreiber would enter the game in the bottom half of the inning, and though he allowed a run off the bat of Bijan Rademacher, the right-hander ultimately shut the door for his second save of the season, and a 6-5 Biscuits win.
The Biscuits are back above .500 and will look to stay there when Chris Kirsch (1-0) takes on Jen-Ho Tseng (0-1) on Thursday morning at 10:35 in Kodak.
The Biscuits will return to Riverwalk in two days to open up a five-game series with the Jacksonville Suns on Friday, April 22 when it will be Princess Night and an all-new MAX Fireworks Show.
