Jackson Generals News Release

Jackson, Tenn. - Leon Landry capped off a dramatic ninth-inning rally with a walk-off single to centerfield Wednesday, giving the Generals a 4-3 win over the Birmingham Barons in front of 2,664 at The Ballpark at Jackson. The Generals were down to their final out and trailing by a run with nobody on in the final frame before getting consecutive singles from their top four hitters.

With two outs and nobody on, Guillermo Heredia extended the game with a single to right field. He moved to third on a base hit by Tim Lopes that put the tying and winning runs on the bases. Tyler O'Neill battled against Barons closer Peter Tago (2-1, 7.27), eventually knotting the game up at three on a bloop single to left.

Leon Landry followed with the winning run a mere 90 feet away. The outfielder smacked a 2-1 fastball up the middle to plate Tim Lopes for the 4-3 win. The victory was Jackson's first walk-off of the year, and the team won in its final at-bat for the second-straight night.

Andrew Kittredge (1-0, 2.45) earned the victory after tossing three scoreless innings in relief for the Generals. Sam Gaviglio allowed three runs over six innings, giving the team its fourth quality start of the season.

Birmingham (5-9) jumped out to an early lead in the first inning on a two-out single by Nicky Delmonico. Jackson (9-4) answered back with a pair of runs in the third. Benji Gonzaelz singled, Marcus Littlewood doubled and Zach Shank was hit by a pitch to load the bases with none out. Heredia tied the game with a sacrifice fly and the go-ahead run scored on a Birmingham error that made it 2-1.

The Barons scored the next two runs of the contest, both coming with two outs. In the fourth, Jake Peter smashed a solo shot to tie the game at two. Two innings later, Eudy Pina put Birmingham on top 3-2 with an opposite-field single.

The Generals threatened in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings, but failed to plate the tying run despite getting two men aboard in each frame. Tim Lopes grounded into an inning-ending double play in the seventh, and the Generals couldn't come through with two in scoring position and only one out. Jackson stranded 10 runners total in Wednesday's contest.

That all changed in the ninth, when the Generals got consecutive two-out singles from Heredia, Lopes, O'Neill and Landry. Seventeen of the team's 69 runs have now come in the final two innings.

Jackson has already earned the series victory, but looks to win the finale Thursday against Birmingham. Righty Brett Ash (1-1, 3.38) gets the start for the Generals against Birmingham's Brandon Brennan (1-1, 11.25), a member of the White Sox 40-man roster. First pitch is set for 7:05 pm CT, and you can catch all the action on the TJ Network (1390 AM, FM 94.1) and the TuneIn Radio App starting with the Generals Pregame Show at 6:50 pm CT.
