Mississippi Braves News Release
PEARL, MS - The Mississippi Braves took an early 6-0 lead and held off the Chattanooga Lookouts to claim a 7-4 victory Tuesday night at Trustmark Park. The series continues with a school day matinee Wednesday at 10:35 AM.
Mississippi (4-9) scored seven runs on 11 hits while Chattanooga (4-9) plated four runs on five hits. Ozzie Albies led the Braves at the plate with a 3-for-4 night. Willians Astudillo, Levi Hyams and Johan Camargo all added two-hit games.
The M-Braves jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the second. Astudillo and Hyams led off with singles to right field. Matt Lipka then reached on a force attempt and Astudillo scored on an errant throw by the third baseman. Camargo followed with a RBI-single and Albies singled to load the bases with no outs. Emerson Landoni then delivered a two-run single to left, plating Lipka and Camargo.
Camargo doubled and Albies singled to start the bottom of the fourth. Landoni's sacrifice fly made it a 5-0 game. Albie was caught stealing but Dustin Peterson delivered a solo blast to left, extending the Braves lead to 6-0.
Chattanooga made it a 6-2 contest in the fifth. Joe Maloney walked and Leonardo Reginatto doubled to start the frame. Levi Michael then singled to right, driving home Maloney. Zach Granite followed with a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Reginatto.
In the seventh, Michael reached on an error by the third baseman and took second on the play. He moved to third on a ground out and later scored on a Shannon Wilkerson singled to left field, making it a 6-3 game.
DJ Hicks walked and Travis Harrison reached on an error to start the Lookouts' eighth. A force out put runners at the corners before Maloney's RBI-single to center.
Hyams blasted a solo homer to right in the bottom of the eighth to add an insurance run for the Braves.
Sean Newcomb (1-0) picked up his first win for the M-Braves. He held Chattanooga to just two earned runs on three hits and four walks. Newcomb struck out seven batters. Stephen Janas tossed two and a third innings before giving way to Mauricio Cabrera (S, 2) for the final inning and two-thirds. He struck two and walked one.
David Hurlbut (1-1) allowed five runs, four earned, on nine hits and a walk. He struck out three batters in three and one-third innings.
The M-Braves send right-hander Rob Whalen (1-0, 3.60) to the hill against Lookouts righty Aaron Slegers (0-1, 3.60) in game four of this five-game series at Trustmark Park. First pitch is slated for 10:35 AM. Gates open at 9:30 PM.
