Reno Aces News Release
RENO, Nev.- Carlos Corporan had three hits-including his ninth home run of the season-and four RBIs, as Reno salvaged a series split with an 11-8 win over Memphis Wednesday afternoon at Aces Ballpark.
Reno dug itself a hole early, as Matt Torra (9-6) surrendered five first-inning runs, staking the Redbirds to an early 5-0 lead. The Aces would fight back, scoring one in the first and two in the second before taking the lead for good with five runs in the bottom of the third. In the third, Cole Gillespie hit an opposite field two-run homer off the foul pole in right and Tony Abreu added an RBI-single before Corporan capped the scoring with a two-run double.
Torra settled down after the first, giving the Aces seven innings while allowing just one earned run after Memphis's big first inning. Torra scattered nine hits while striking out five without walking a batter. Jason Urquidez earned his team-leading 11th hold, throwing a scoreless eighth, while Carlos Rosa tossed the ninth for his seventh save.
Nate Robertson (1-1) took the loss for Memphis, surrendering 10 runs on 11 hits in five innings of work.
Corporan finished 3-for-4 with a double, home run and four RBIs. Gillespie chipped in with his sixth homer of the year, while Chris Rahl, Brandon Allen and Abreu all recorded two hits for Reno.
The Aces will enjoy an off day Thursday before opening an eight-game road trip Friday night in New Orleans. Reno will send LHP Zach Kroenke (4-3, 4.24 ERA) to the mound against Zephyrs RHP Nic Ungs (1-0, 4.66 ERA). First pitch is set for 5 p.m. PT from Zephyr Field, and all the action can be heard locally on Fox Sports Radio 1450 AM or online at RenoAces.com.
Reno returns home Saturday, August 21, for a four-game series against Tacoma. Tickets for all Aces games start at just $7, and are available by calling the Reno Aces box office at (775) 334-7000 or by visiting RenoAces.com.
