Reno Aces News Release
WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif.- A sixth-inning solo home run off the bat of Mark Hallberg was all the offense the Aces would muster on Monday night, as Reno dropped a 10-1 decision to the Sacramento River Cats in the series finale at Raley Field.
Hallberg's blast-his third of the season-prevented Reno from its first shutout of the season, but only put a dent into an early 5-0 River Cats lead. Sacramento answered with three runs in the home half of the frame and two more in the seventh to cruise to their fourth win in the five-game series.
Aces starter Tom Layne (8-4) took the loss, surrendering eight runs on nine hits over six innings of work. Ryan Cook-just optioned this afternoon by the Diamondbacks-allowed two unearned runs before infielder Andy Tracy came on and retired the side in order in the eighth.
The win went to River Cats starter Graham Godfrey (9-2), who scattered a run on five hits over seven frames. Godfrey struck out eight and didn't walk a batter.
In addition to Hallberg's home run, the first four batters in the Reno order each singled.
Still in first place and holding the Pacific Coast League's best record, the Aces return home on Tuesday night to kick-off a four-game set with the Las Vegas 51s in the resumption of the Silver State Diamond Challenge. In the opener, LHP Zach Kroenke (6-2, 6.86 ERA) gets the nod for Reno, while Las Vegas will counter with RHP Robert Ray (0-1, 7.00 ERA). First pitch at Aces Ballpark is set for 7:05 p.m. PT, and the club will present another 50-Cent Hot Dog Night presented by KTVN Channel 2 News.
Tickets are available at RenoAces.com, the Aces Ballpark box office or by phone at (775) 334-7000. Discounted group tickets for your next event are available today.
