Ontario Reign News Release
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Ontario Reign, proud affiliate of the NHL Los Angeles Kings and the AHL Manchester Monarchs, fell to the Alaska Aces Wednesday evening before a crowd of 3,470 in Anchorage, AK.
Alaska took the early lead at 6:52 in the first period when left wing Scott Burt fired the puck past Ontario netminder Kellen Briggs, with assists from right wing Brett Hemingway and center Vladimir Novak. The Aces scored again only 36 seconds later, when Vladimir Novak beat Briggs off an assist from Scott Burt, and both players picked up their second point of the night. Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the second period, despite three power play opportunities between the clubs. The score remained at 2-0, Aces leading, as the teams headed into the final period of play.
Right wing Colin Hemingway extended the Aces lead on a third period power play, when he buried a one-timer past Briggs from between the face-off circles at 5:20. Defensemen Alexandre Imbeault and Corbin Schmidt registered the assists. Ontario answered back at 8:23 when center Tim Kraus threw a back-door feed to right wing Jon Rheault, who smashed the puck into the net past Alaska goaltender Jean-Philippe Lamoureux. Defenseman David Walker also registered an assist on the play, and extended his assist streak to three games.
With less than a minute to play, the Reign pulled Briggs for the extra attacker. They were unable to catch the Aces, who went on to win the game, 3-1.
