Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Victoria, BC - In a Wednesday night match-up the Victoria Salmon Kings and Stockton Thunder met in the finale of a two-game set. Goaltender Julien Ellis started in net for the Kings while the Thunder countered with Andrew Perugini.

The Thunder were the first to score just past the halfway mark of the opening frame. At 10:35, Geoff Paukovich netted his first goal of the season, taking an Igor Gongalsky pass from behind the net and snapping a shot from the faceoff circle that made it through Ellis' legs. Paukovich's goal was the lone marker of the period, as the Thunder took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

Defense and goaltending dominated the middle period. Perugini turned aside 17 Salmon King shots, and Ellis made 12 saves of his own to keep the score 1-0 Stockton after 40 minutes.

Stockton doubled their lead just 52 seconds into the third period. Mike Lalonde redirected a David Surma shot over Ellis's blocker. Lalonde's goal was his 13th of the season. Perugini then took over for the Thunder, making 12 third period saves to record his eighth win of the season and first professional shutout. Thunder 2 Salmon Kings 0.

Victoria finished 0/4 = 0% on the power play, while Stockton finished 0/5= 0%. The Salmon Kings outshot the Thunder 38-34.
