Aberdeen IronBirds News Release
Tonight's Match-up
The Aberdeen IronBirds will begin their second consecutive three-game series with the Vermont Lake Monsters (Class-A Short-Season affiliate of the Oakland A's) tonight at Centennial Field. Aberdeen took two of three from Vermont at Ripken Stadium after beating the Lake Monsters 9-8 Friday night in 10 innings. Trailing by two runs heading into the eighth, the IronBirds scored a run in each of the game's final three innings to win. Glynn Davis went 3-for-5 in the win with his first home run of the season. He also scored the game-winning run in the 10th. The victory was the IronBirds' first walk-off win of the season. Tonight, Aberdeen will have right-hander Matt Hobgood on the hill. Hobgood is with the IronBirds on a rehab assignment. He'll go up against right-hander Seth Frankoff.
Walk-off Winners
Last night was the IronBirds' first walk-off win of the 2011 season. In 2010, Aberdeen had eight walk-off wins. The game also marked the first time this season Aberdeen has won when trailing after the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings.
Hobgood and Berry to Pitch Tonight
Top prospects Matt Hobgood and Ryan Berry are expected to pitch in tonight's game at Vermonth. Both are rehabbing shoulder injuries with the IronBirds. Hobgood, who was the fifth overall pick in the 2009 draft, is expected to pitch the first three or four innings. Berry, who Baseball America ranks as the ninth-best prospect in the Orioles system, will pitch around three innings of relief.
Glynn's Streaking
With three more hits in yesterday's win, including his first home run of the season, Davis has now hit safely in six straight games. The six-game hitting streak is the longest such streak an IronBirds hitter has had this season. The longest hitting streak in team history was a 17-gamer back in 2002 by Brandon Fahey.
Three More? Why Not.
Tonight the IronBirds begin their second consecutive three-game set with the Lake Monsters. The IronBirds will play the same team six straight days two times this summer. In August, Aberdeen will take on the Connecticut Tigers on six consecutive nights.
