JAMESTOWN, N.Y. - Jobduan Morales hit for the cycle, and the Jamestown Jammers moved back in to sole possession of first place in the Pinckney Division with a win, 13-6, at Diethrick Park Saturday night.

Morales roped a two-run triple to right in the first, a double to leadoff the third, a two-run homer in the sixth and a single in his final at bat in the bottom of the eighth to complete the cycle, while the Jamestown win and Mahoning Valley loss put the Jammers (17-12) a game in front of the Scrappers (16-13) in the standings.

"It feels great to do," Morales said through translator and hitting coach Angel Espada. "I'm very emotional right now because I know how hard it is to hit for the cycle."

Things got off to a quick start for the Jammers as they jumped on Mahoning Valley starting pitcher Rob Nixon with seven runs in the first inning after the Scrappers scored once in the top of the first.

A little luck needed to happen for Morales to get a chance at the cycle in the bottom of the eighth inning as he was due up fifth, but his teammates did not disappoint and gave him the opportunity. After working the count full, Morales fouled off a pitch before lining one to right field to complete the cycle.

"I overswung a little," Morales said of the beginning of the at bat. "I stepped out took a deep breath, and I got a good pitch and hit it hard enough to get a single."

Smith contributed two hits including the home run, and Dayleg had three hits and three RBI. Adams picked up a double and two RBI, while Keys had two infield singles.

The Jamestown bullpen pitched five shutout innings with Miguel Mejia earning the win after throwing three scoreless frames. The two teams will be back in action Sunday at 6:05 p.m. at Diethrick Park.

Rand Smith crushed a solo homer to start the inning, and Brent Keys extended his hitting streak to 16 games with a bunt single. Dayleg had a RBI single, Keys scored on a fielding error, and Morales drilled his third triple of the season to make it 5-1.

The first baseman scored on a ground out by Ryan Goetz, and Smith had a RBI single to account for the offense.

Morales then roped a leadoff double in the bottom of the third, but the Jammers failed to cash him in, which proved costly after Mahoning Valley stormed back with a five-run fourth inning. The first four batters reached on a double, walk and two singles before Henry Dunn hit a grand slam to left field to cut the Jamestown advantage to one.

In the fifth inning, both teams would threaten to score, but only Jamestown could break through with another tally.

Then, the Jammers would tack three more runs on in the bottom of the sixth to break the game back open. Adams plated a run with a RBI single, and Morales connected for a towering two-run blast over the right field wall.

"I felt comfortable in that at bat," Morales said of the homer. "The pitcher threw inside early, and I knew he was going to come back in. I was fortunate enough to connect."
