July 16th-Brooklyn, NY-The Brooklyn Cyclones (15-13) extended their winning streak to three games, edging the Lowell Spinners (12-16) by a score of 5-4 on Saturday night at MCU Park.

Fresh off a 10-4 thrashing of the Auburn Doubledays, in which Brooklyn amassed 14 hits, the Cyclones fell behind 4-0 in the top of the second but rebounded by scoring two runs in two separate innings before scoring the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth.

Nelfi Zapata contributed a season-high three doubles and tied a franchise record set by Ambiorix Concepcion on August 15th, 2004 versus Aberdeen.

Brooklyn starter Jeffrey Walters (1-3) lasted just 1.2 innings, allowing four runs on five hits with three strikeouts. The righthander was replaced by Orlando Tovar in the top of the second inning. After Tracy Roberson plated the first run with an RBI single, leadoff man Keury De La Cruz brought home three more runs with a double to right that sailed over the head of rightfielder Charley Thurber.

The Cyclones responded in the bottom half of the frame with two runs of their own. With one out and the bases loaded, Zapata smashed a two-run double off the wall in left-center, scoring both Richard Lucas and Thurber who reached base on a hit-by-pitch and single to center respectively.

Two frames later, Brooklyn evened the score by adding two more runs off of Spinners' starter Raynell Velette. With two outs, Zapata added another double to left-center and Chase Greene followed suit with a walk. Danny Muno, who entered the game hitting a team-high .388, tied the score with a two-run triple to left-center. Velette finished with four runs allowed and three walks in 3.2 innings.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Cyclones scored the go-ahead run off of reliever Nefi Ogando. Zapata hit his third double of the night on a line drive down the rightfield line before Cole Frenzel brought him home on a single to left for a 5-4 lead. Frenzel now has six RBI in his last three games.

Hunter Carnevale earned his second save of the season but it didn't come easily. After walking Travis Shaw with one out, pinch runner Robert Ramos stole second. After Boss Moanaroa walked and Jason Thompson flew out to right, a wild pitch moved runners to second and third. However, the next batter, Seth Schwindenhammer, offered at a two strike pitch in the dirt to end the ballgame and prevent the tying run from coming home.

The middle game of the three-game set will be tomorrow at 5 PM. Randy Fontanez (0-0, 4.76 ERA) makes his first start of the season after making three relief appearances and will oppose Madison Younginer (0-2, 3.15 ERA). It will be Jewish Heritage Night with a pre-game concert from children's singer Uncle Moishy. There will be a pre-game catch on the field from 4:00 PM to 4:30 PM and the first 3,000 fans will receive Cyclones Power Bracelets. Following the game, all children are invited to run the bases.
