Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release
FARGO, ND - After an early innings pitcher's duel, Winnipeg's bats got hot on Sunday afternoon to seal a 7-2 win over the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks in front of 3,374 fans at Newman Outdoor Field. The Goldeyes sealed at least a series split with the victory this afternoon.
Starters Michael Tamburino and Kevin McGovern both had solid outings on a muggy afternoon at Newman. Each gave up two runs - Tamburino in six innings and McGovern in seven - to set up the game for their respective bullpens.
Winnipeg started the scoring in the second inning with back-to-back home runs from Kyle Martin and Reggie Abercrombie off Tamburino. The 2-0 lead held until the fourth, when Fargo-Moorhead turned four hits into two runs. Chris Jacobs singled in Tim Colwell before Leo Pina's sacrifice fly brought in Devan Ahart to tie the game.
The 2-2 tie lasted until the seventh inning, when the Goldeyes got to RedHawks' reliever Joe Filomeno with a solo shot off the stick of Reggie Abercrombie - his second of the game - to retake the lead. Winnipeg added four more runs over the final two innings to put the game out of reach, including a two-run homer from Dominic Ficociello in the top of the ninth.
Abercrombie finished the game with three hits, three RBIs, and two home runs. He is five-for-twelve with three big flies and six RBI in the first three games of the four-game set against the RedHawks.
Joe Filomeno got the loss for the RedHawks after coming on in the seventh inning. Carter Hope came on to pitch the ninth, surrendering three runs on three hits. McGovern got the win for the Fish, his 10th of the year.
The RedHawks and Goldeyes will finish off their series Monday night at Newman Outdoor Field. RHP Tyler Pike is scheduled to start for the RedHawks against Winnipeg RHP Joel Seddon. First pitch is scheduled for 7:02 p.m.
