Hamilton, ON - Stefan Meyer scored twice for the Amerks, and goaltender Jean-Marc Pelletier made 28 saves as the Rochester Americans downed the Hamilton Bulldogs by a score of 4-1 at Copps Coliseum on Saturday night.
The Amerks opened the scoring at the 3:27 mark of the first period while on the power play. Defenceman Jeff Jillson one-timed a pass from Matt Hendricks by Hamilton netminder Yann Danis' blocker for his fourth goal of the season.
Bulldogs forward Andrei Kostitsyn knotted the game at 1-1 at the 3:31 mark of the middle frame with his eighth goal of the season. Kostitsyn capitalized on a Rochester turnover and wristed the puck from the hashmarks past Pelletier's blocker side. It was Kostitsyn's first game since being reassigned by the Montreal Canadiens to Hamilton on January 27.
Rochester regained the lead at 6:35 when forward Stefan Meyer took a centering pass from Scott Sheppard and beat Danis between the legs from in close. Sam Paolini drew the secondary assist.
Meyer added to the Rochester lead just 2:01 later when he intercepted a pass at the Rochester blueline and broke in short-handed, beating Yann Danis with a high backhand shot.
Rochester defenceman David Cullen blasted home a power-play goal at 17:02 of the third period to increase the Amerks lead to 4-1. Cullen took a centering pass from forward Jiri Novotny and roofed a shot under the crossbar.
Danis made saves 18 and suffered the loss, while Pelletier made 28 saves to earn the victory.
Hamilton was 0 for 8 on the power play while Rochester was 2 for 5.
Hamilton's next home game will take place on Sunday, January 29th when the Manitoba Moose visit Copps Coliseum. Game time is 4:00 p.m. Tickets are available at Copps Coliseum Box Office (in-person sales only), any Ticketmaster outlet, online at ticketmaster.ca or at select Sports Obsession locations.
