Long Beach Ice Dogs News Release

LONG BEACH, Calif. – January 21, 2002 – Long Beach Ice Dogs Director of Hockey Operations and Head Coach Kevin Kaminski announced today that the Ice Dogs have signed right wing Craig Lyons to a one-year deal, and claimed goaltender Danielle Dubé off waivers. To make room on the roster, the Ice Dogs waived forward Joe Grasso (retroactive to Jan. 20).

Lyons, 30, one of the greatest scorers in the West Coast Hockey League with 587 points, returns to the WCHL after spending the start of the season with Guildford Flames of the British National League (BNL). Lyons signed with the Flames after the Colorado Gold Kings folded in August.

"We are very pleased to have signed Craig Lyons," said Kaminski. "Craig has been one of the League's most prolific scorers. He is a welcome addition and I think he'll fit in well."

The 6-foot-2, 195-pound Calgary, Alberta native is second on the WCHL's all-time scoring list (587) and in assists (358). He is also the League's third highest goal scorer (229). Lyons has amassed the WCHL's fourth-most games played (355) having played the last four seasons with Colorado and another two (1996-98) with the Fresno Falcons.

Second on the Gold Kings' all-time scoring list, Lyons collected 384 points (145-239=384) in only 244 games played. Highlighting his tenure with Colorado, Lyons was named the WCHL's Most Valuable Player for the 2000-01 season after pacing the league in assists (76) and points (117).

Dubé, 26, was claimed off waivers from Bakersfield today and returns to the Ice Dogs since the club traded her to the Condors on Jan. 11. The Vancouver, British Columbia native played in one game with Bakersfield where she recorded her first professional victory, defeating the Anchorage Aces 6-4 on Jan. 11. Dubé became the third female goalie to start in a men's professional hockey game, stopping 18 shots in the Ice Dogs' 4-1 loss to San Diego on Dec. 11, 2002. Dubé joined Manon Rheaume and Erin Whitten as the only women to start in a men's pro league.
