Hodson Makes His Way to the NHL
January 21, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL)
Greensboro Generals News Release
Greensboro, NC â The Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League (NHL) announced today they have recalled goaltender Jamie Hodson from their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate St. John's Maple Leafs. Hodson will be in uniform wearing the number 35 when the Maple Leafs host the Philadelphia Flyers tonight at 7:30 ET.
Hodson, 22, has spent the majority of this season with the Greensboro Generals of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL). The 6'2", 200-pound backstopper has a 9-4-1 record this season in 14 games with the Generals, is currently second in the league with a 2.43 goals against average and leads the ECHL with a .938 save percentage. Hodson, who was just called up from the Generals to St. John's last Friday, has played three games with the "Baby" Leafs this year, posting a 0-1-0 record with a 3.10 goals against average. Hodson's recall makes him the first Greensboro General player to ever make the jump to the NHL in the franchise's four-year history.
"Jamie has got to be the happiest kid in the world right now, and I'm just as happy for him" says Generals head coach Rick Adduono (ah-DOO-no). "He's worked so hard at developing his game, and he has earned every bit of this call-up. Who knows? Maybe he'll get a chance to shine in Toronto, and if he doesn't get the opportunity this time around, I guarantee you he'll be heard from again in the National Hockey League."
The Generals are currently in the midst of their all-star break and are off until this Saturday night at 7:05 when they visit the Columbia Inferno. They don't play at home again until Wednesday, January 29 at 7:00 against Hodson's and Adduono's former team, the South Carolina Stingrays. Ticket prices range from $10.00 - $17.00, with tickets as low as $8.00 for students and seniors. Generals Flex Plans for six, twelve, and 18 games are also available for as little as $50.00.
