January 21, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL)
Burlington News Release
Lexington, KY- Lexington Men O' War General Manager of Hockey Operations/Head Coach Jim Wiley announced today winger Mike Sgroi (Skroy) has been re-called by the American Hockey League's Utah Grizzlies. Sgroi leaves Lexington to join the Grizz on the road in Philadelphia. Utah and Philadelphia have met twice with the two teams combining for one post-game bench clear brawl and 157 penalty minutes.
The six-foot-five, 225-pound winger leaves the Men after playing in 33 games with nine goals and seven assists for 16 points. Sgroi also led the team with 135 penalty minutes and a Northern Conference lead of 17 fighting majors. Sgroi's nine goals placed him in third best on the MOW roster. His four power play goals place him second best on the squad. Sgroi will be making his second stint in Utah after playing in three games with 17 penalty minutes and zero points in early October. The Dallas Stars re-called Utah's Jon Erskine on Monday after he recorded 219 penalty minutes in 36 games for the Grizz.
The Men will face-off with the rugged Peoria Rivermen on Friday at Rupp Arena. Not only will the Men be without Sgroi but the team will also miss six-foot-six, 235-pound winger Jay Banach. Banach will be out of the line-up four to six-weeks with a broken knuckle. Banach injured his hand in an altercation with Greenville's Eric Lind last Friday at Rupp.
Individual game tickets to the 7,600 seat capacity Rupp Arena are on sale by calling (859) 233-3535 or any Ticketmaster outlet by calling (859) 281-6644. Tickets can also be purchased at www.ticketmaster.com.
