North Wins ECHL All-Star Game, 8-2
January 21, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL) News Release
ESTERO, Fla. - Toledo's Nick Parillo scored two goals and Atlantic City's Scott Stirling earned Most Valuable Player honors after stopping all 11 shots in the first period as the Northern Conference beat the Southern Conference, 8-2, in the 2003 Compuware/ECHL All-Star Game played in front of 6,442 fans at TECO Arena on Tuesday.
The six-goal margin is the largest winning margin in ECHL All-Star Game history, eclipsing the record of four goals set in 1993 and tied in 1998. The two goals by the Southern Conference are the fewest goals by a team, breaking the record set by the West Division in 1993. Stirling, who started in 2001 for the Northern Conference, tied the ECHL record for most appearances by a goaltender, set by Nic Vitucci in 1993 and 1997 and tied by Bujar Amidovski in 1999 and 2000. McCullough, who had a hat trick in the 2001 All-Star Game, scored a goal giving him four career goals, tying him for second all-time while his five points (4g-1a) tie him for fourth all-time.
Peoria's Tyler Rennette gave the Northern Conference a 1-0 lead with a goal at 4:11 of the first period, assisted by Cincinnati's Ryan Gaucher and Atlantic City's Kevin Colley. Reading's Brian McCullough made it 2-0 at the first intermission with a goal at 19:22, assisted by Richmond's Jamie Herrington.
Dayton's Andrew Ianiero made it 3-0 with a goal at 8:41 of the second period, assisted by Wheeling's Zenon Konopka and Johnstown's Pierre-Luc Courchesne. Columbia's Justin Morrison made it 3-1 with a goal at 9:14 of the second, assisted by Columbia teammate Rejean Stringer and Pensacola's Ryan O'Keefe. Parillo gave the Northern Conference a 4-1 lead with a goal at 11:47 of the second, assisted by Atlantic City's Henkel and Reading's Brad Rooney. Richmond's Jon Zion made it 5-1 at the second intermission with a power-play goal at 19:07 of the second period, assisted by Roanoke's Jason Jaffray and Colley.
Wheeling's Chris McNamara made it 6-1 with a goal at 2:23 of the third period, assisted by McCullough. Morrison scored his second goal of the game at 4:09 of the third period, assisted by Stringer and Greenville's Judd Medak. Herrington gave the Northern Conference a 7-2 lead with a goal at 6:40 of the third, assisted by Greensboro's Geno Parrish and McNamara.
