7,192 Watch Grizzlies Fall 3-2 On Opening Night

West Valley City, Utah - The Idaho Steelheads defeated the Utah Grizzlies 3-2 Friday night at the E-Center before 7,192 fans.

Utah battled back from an early 1-0 deficit, tying the contest with six seconds left in the first period as rookie Jake Gannon fired the puck from the far point for his first professional goal.

In the second period, Utah took their first lead as Shea Guthrie wheeled in for his second goal in two games and the score was 2-1 Grizzlies 5:50 into the second. The lead lasted 3:44 before Idaho tied the contest at 9:36 and took a 3-2 lead 1:57 later at 11:33.

Utah outshot Idaho 13-8 in the third period and 37-25 overall in the contest but was never able to push anything more past Idaho goaltender Rejean Beauchamin.

James Sixsmith tallied two assists for his second-straight multiple-point game for the Grizzlies. Goaltender Parker Van Buskirk stopped 22 of 25 Idaho shots in the losing cause.

The Grizzlies and Steelheads meet again Saturday at the E-Center at 7:05 p.m. It is the team's fourth-annual "Pink in the Rink" game for breast cancer awareness. Visit www.utahgrizzlies.com for more information.
