Alaska Aces News Release

LAS VEGAS -- Colin Hemingway and John Lammers each scored twice as Alaska built a 5-0 lead and cruised to a 5-2 victory over Las Vegas in front of 3,107 Thursday at Orleans Arena.

The Aces have matched the 1996-97 club with their 4-0 start, and take over first place in the West Division by two points over idle Idaho. Alaska and Vegas hook up again Friday and Saturday night at 6:05 p.m. Both games will be broadcast live on KFQD 750 AM, with Peanut Farm Pre-Game Show coverage getting underway at 5:45 p.m. The Aces have beaten the Wranglers in nine of their last 10 meetings, including a four-game sweep in last year's conference final.

The Aces asserted their superiority early, as T.J. Fast found Lammers in the right circle for a wrist shot that beat Joel Gistedt over the left shoulder just 4:23 into the game. Less than two minutes later, Alaska struck shorthanded when Lammers set up Colin Hemingway off the rush. Hemingway pushed the lead to 3-0 on a power play at 11:55 of the second period, off another assist by Lammers.

With an assist from Hemingway, Lammers scored his fifth goal in three games and the fourth shorthanded goal of the season for the Aces at 7:41 of the third period. Matt Stefanishion's goal off the rush, set up by Alexandre Imbeault, put the game out of reach at 5-0 with 7:53 left in regulation.

Sebastian Dahm, bidding for his first professional shutout, was beaten by Justin Bernhardt 48 seconds after Stefanishion's goal, ending an Alaska streak of 21 consecutive penalty kills to open the season. Shay Stephenson accounted for the final margin, poking home a loosepuck in front of Dahm with 2:28 remaining, but Dahm still finished with 26 saves and has won all three of his starts. Lammers (four) and Hemingway (three) combined for seven points and, like Derick Martin, finished +2 for the evening.
